Can LVH be reversed?

Показать описание
When the heart is working for a prolonged time against increased pressure, it becomes more muscular and this increased muscularity is referred to as hypertrophy. As the left ventricle is responsible for pumping blood around the body, any pathology within the body which makes it more difficult to pump blood around may over a period of time, lead to left ventricular hypertrophy. A hypertrophied heart weighs a lot more than a non-hypertrophied heart.

Left ventricular hypertrophy is important for 2 main reasons:
It is a sign that the heart is under stress and therefore whenever we see it, we must try and identify the stressor

The left ventricular hypertrophy itself can cause us harm.

having had LVH due to an adrenal tumour and shocking blood pressure for best part of 3-4 years with 3 heart meds of varying types concurrently, once tumour removed and changed diet to low carb with intermittent fasting and exercise, lost excess weight and was able to stop all heart meds. The two subsequent heart scans shown no sign of LVH - so it can be done, have hope and listen to this excellent Dr. Thanks for all you do Dr. Gupta

Thank you for being such a selfless doctor. I have been diagnosed with LVH and 53 years of age. I have a stress test scheduled, will be doing a sleep study to check for sleep apnea. I am optimistic and know that right now I am in the best position I can be. Diagnosed and being treated. I love life!
Be well Dr! Be well Al viewers and family.

Thank you dr. Gupta for this thorough explanation on lvh. My husband has been diagnosed with mild concentric lvh on echo when he went for a routine checkup. This video has given us hope that we can reverse this condition. We are definitely more prepared on what to ask for on next appointment with the cardiologist. Thanks a ton, looking forward to more such videos. Best regards, Shwetha

Thank you for giving a new heart patient hope. The doom and gloom is all I hear most of the time. It's so useful to have the facts and the sense of hope for the ability to reverse some of the damage I have. My only symptom of this problem was shortness of breath after eating. My doctor picked up on the problem and confirmed the diagnosis with an EKG in the office. Now onto a cardiologist for the Echo and possible stress test. My blood pressure has started to rise over my normal 115/75 in recent months. And I do snore so sleep apnea is a possibility. Hoping it's not too late to make significant, beneficial changes in my heart condition. Thanks again!

Are you in front of your window, Sanjay? Interesting lighting and looks like it! Your sound has been low lately. Don't see how you have time nor all this information in your head but you're GREAT! Thank you very much for sharing this so generously with us.Your hands look like you're conducting an orchestra and maybe you are. Cardiology Music!!

I have all the symptoms. I have a enlarged heart. The cardiologist says everything is fine. When I'm getting dizzy and feeling short of breath everything is not fine. Idk how some of these doctors become doctors if they are not gonna listen to there patients. I don't just go to the doctor because I wanna go I go because there is a reason. I personally don't have a grudge against any of them. Let's figure out what is wrong when I say my symptoms. I know my body and when something is off.

Very interesting, I need to get a scan to see if I have LVH. I'm surprised my Dr didn't organize one, as I have uncontrolled BP.

The problem is that areas of fibrosis/scarring don’t go away, and if the stretching/scarring involves the electrical pathways, you will still be predisposed to sudden dysrhythmias that can cause death.
