How to Hide Lock Picks in a Marker

If you’re looking to carry lock picks in an overt device, (meaning it’s hiding in plain sight), consider this quick marker hack.

Start by removing the cap from a marker and separating the exterior case from the interior ink well using a side-to-side motion. You may be able to separate them by hand, but if pliers are required, be sure to use something like a paper towel or tape to avoid marring the marker.

Once you’ve got the two pieces separated, remove the ink storage wick and discard. You’ll want to trim off a small portion of the interior insert to allow the case to sit flush again once the toolset’s inside. From there, you can insert a toolset like the Micro Tradecraft Toolset. The small tension wrench in this set can be used to wedge the toolset against the wall of the marker, preventing rattling.

Now you can reassemble the marker and store it for future use. Keep in mind, the ink tip will eventually dry out so you may need to swap it out from time to time if you still want to write with it.

I think it's important to note that actually using lockpicks that small will be a huge challenge, plus only having one tension wrench might make many common locks harder/impossible to open even with normal sized lockpicks

*No rattling noise when you pick up the pen?*
*Can you still write with it?*
