Thank you for helping me open my key box I accidentally locked myself out of; as a real estate agent, I was shocked to see how easy these are to hack, and glad to know my broker requires Supra boxes instead, for listings. These might be a hide a key option for contractors only in the future. Hide the key box too, if using these, everyone!

Former fire department Lieutenant here. Having opened these in emergency situations, these key safes are surprisingly easy to open using simple hand tools such as a flat-head screwdriver or a knife. 🚒

These key boxes should not be located by the door, rather out of sight, I work in community homecare and I know of boxes located on a front garden wall behind a plant, behind the bins, and inside the meter cupboard, sometimes the obscure locations make life awkward for us and we have the actual combination there is one property we visit where the box is located on the wall of a neighbouring property and that property has a very alert dog behind the door.

Lots of holiday homes use these key safes, I’d never rely on one for my home though.I never did think they were very secure and now I know they arn’t.😅

They are very common in over 50’s retirement villages and the code is recorded with the ambulance service in case the occupant is responding.

Way to stop people doing this is to have 2. One on show with a picture of a middle finger sticking up in it, then another one out of site with your keys in
