Now that the M2 MacBook Air has been out for a week I wanted to compare it to the m1 iPad Pro and see which is the better choice to spend your hard earned money

I wouldn’t replace my Mac for an iPad even if I only worked on apps like MS Office. I’ve tried, but the apps lack many features, specially Excel. There might be some photography workflows in which an iPad might be better, but generally it is just a complement, not a replacement. So my advice is that if you need a computer, get a real one, not a tablet, and if you already have a good computer, then get an iPad to help you with some tasks like reading PDFs, taking notes, quick photo editing and entertainment.

I purchased a 12.9 M1 Pro a few months ago, it has totally replaced my laptop for daily use but if I were a student I would likely prefer my MacBook. I’m retired and don’t have a need for serious computer programs so the iPad fits me more perfectly

One thing that annoys me about the ipad with magic keyboard is the balance. When using it on your lap it is too top heavy and constantly topples over

I am a sales person and I bought the m1 iPad Pro with the same thoughts, a device that i can take my notes on, join video calls, work on office apps, a little AutoCAD etc. and I also installed iPadOS 16 last month just to try the stage manager. And you know what happened in the end? I am buying an m2 MacBook Air instead. Because i am 100% sure now that an iPad CAN NEVER REPLACE A LAPTOP! So I suggest stop dreaming and buy a laptop..

🐬 I have to agree with August Galindo here, there are too many missing features on Excel and other apps on the iPadOS. I am getting the M2 (8GB, 512Gb, 10 coreGPU) tomorrow to upgrade my 2013 MacBook Air as Office support has now been removed unless I upgrade the MacOS which I’m not going to do on a 9 yr old machine. I have both 😂, the iPads more fun, the airs more serious, it can deal with more file formats even tho I'm a Microsoft office person. If it's formality strictly then MacBook air, if you want to have fun and don't mind spending 15 minutes to find a workaround if you need to get work done get the iPad. Very close comparison because aside the hardware differences of a touchscreen, 120hz screen, rear cameras both have 8 core cpus and 8 core Gpus, the M2 is higher clocked and newer so it obviously outperforms it but good hardware and chip comparison very close, totally different types of users.

Having both an iPad and a macbook pro. I would always pick the macbook. iPad is good as a media consumption device but comes no way near to the capabilities of the mac. It's just a bigger screen iPhone

I've been using a M1 iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard for the better part of the last year. When they announced the M2 MBA I immediately gave my iPad Pro to my partner lol. Waiting for my M2 MBA 16GB 512SSD this weekend! My workflows for work and personal stuff simply do not allow the iPad Pro to be my all-round go-to computer. "Almost all" just doesn't cut it (again, for me). It's great that my partner is the better user of the iPad Pro cos she uses the Pencil to illustrate a lot more than I used it to take notes. I just need to use a lot more full-fledged software instead of mobile apps, even if I'm not even a power user.

Using both of ipad pro m1 12.9 and m2 macbook pro. When it comes for work macbook takes it all, iPad with beautiful screen and amazing speaker perfectly fits for entertainment like watching movie, listening music, editing video, etc. Love both of them.

M2 MBAir is lighter than M1 iPad Pro+keyboard, more powerful, w/ more battery life, calibrated 10-bit screen, running full softwares (Capture One, FCP, …). Hence perfect for serious photography(RAW) / video (ProRes or Dji cine-log) editing on the go.

🐬 If I had $1500, I'd probably buy the iPad Pro because of the fact that you can draw or paint with the Apple Pencil. I do like the battery life aspect of the M2 Air. Thanks for this video.

I have had the iPad Pro (2018) With the Apple Pencil and Touchpad case for the past 2 years. Recently got the M1 MacBook Air . I paid the same price for both and, I have to say for the money, the MacBook Air wins hand down.

Yes the screen on the iPad is nice especially with promotion. However the MacBook Air is like an iPad but can do so much more and the battery is simply incredible. There are also a few less OS bugs and general quirks if you want to do more than just simple web browsing, or email.
One the MacBook it just seems to take a few less steps each time to complete a task.

I love my 2018 iPad Pro… I actually use the back camera… I think it’s great for shooting video that you can then edit in LumaFusion without having to Airdrop… although I do that too. Side note LumaFusion works really well on M1 Macs. I use it on my Mac Mini and it’s great. But bottom line the iPad Pro is just so versatile, I draw on it, watch videos do all kinds of things. If I want a laptop experience I use the keyboard case… if I want ultimate portability I use a thin folio case.

6:58 sorry but you can adjust the unlocking through setting that you dont need to swipe up to open it fully its just like an iphone

Fernando The reason I went with 2021 iPad Pro over my 2018 MacBook Pro 15in is weight I carry in my backpack everyday I go. I don’t care about M1 and Intel i7 performance. I am happy with my iPad Pro for now!

iPad only… with a Logitech combo touch keyboard. While connected to external monitor, it becomes my desktop (stage manager is awesome)… and I have the 11 inch M1. My work flow is on a web based server (using an app called jump desktop) which gives me full access to the desktop version of excel so no complaints for that matter. Very happy as of now…
