Great demonstration. I went with a Transformer Prime than the ipad, saved me a lot of time and stress to get something like these to work on the ipad. The The Transformer Prime did all that and more. THank you so much.

I found a flashdrive workaround after viewing this. Back up the flashdrive if necessary, and reformat to FAT32 in Disk Utility, and create a folder called DCIM. Put the media in that folder. Works perfectly.

Thank you for demoing this video, telling us about the ipad2 incompatibility with external hard drive. You saved my time trying to figure out whether I can view photos on an external hard drive. Apple should strive to support external hard drive for the Ipad2...

I have a Seagate Go-Flex Satelite external hard drive. It connects easily to my iPad using Bluetooth and works just fine for file storage and watching videos.

Just to clarify things:
Its full possible for a external drives to work with any i Devices...
Format the usb/harddrive to the readable format and plug it in, if harddrive; you need a 1 to 2 splitter to power the harddrive with one head and connect the harddrive with the other.

keep in mind that JailBreaking is needed to use drives as a storage rather than only  "read" the content.

External drives will always work with iPhones iPads iPods etc etc,
as long as Apple does not change the industry standard input output procedure/language of "their" devices communication port, aka usb/lightening port.

There is one wireless external flash drive I have been using, the Kingston WiDrive. It has its own WiFi network which also allows simultaneous Internet access. Mine has 16 GB ( the same storage as my iPad and iPhone ) which effectively extend the devices' capacity. It works great and will connect up to 3 devices a once. The only thing is that it's a little slow connecting to begin with.

@DetroitBORG You couldn´t say better. Apple is a multimedia company, they design their hardware and their custom made software and OS, and that´s the reason every apple stuff works so well. My flat white Imac (late 2006) is working as fast and silent as the first day with last version of Mac OS. No upgrades at all. Try vista on a 5 year old pc.

Use the split usb cable. One end to power ipad and the other for thumb drive. It should work like a champ...

Thanks. At the time I posted my comment my ipad was still under warranty. I had heard that if you Jail broke your device you lost any warranty entitelments, bt since now my warranty has expiered I will try this. Thanks again.

Oh My God!!!! I am watching this in 2013 .. Comparing Detroidborg now to this is like comparing iOS 7 to iOS 4
