Increase flexibility with this 1 hour full body deep stretch yoga class.

My Christmas gift to you is an indulgent, hour long yin yoga class for flexibility! Stretch out your hips, shoulders, hamstrings and low back with this lovely sequence that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and comfortable in your own body. You will need two blocks for this practice and a blanket is optional but nice to have.

What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more felxibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints. Although your muscles will also be stretched, that is not the focus of the practice. It is best to practice yin yoga while your muscles are cold and NOT warmed up, even if that sounds counterintuitive. The reason we do this is so that we can send the "stress" and the "Stretch" to the connective tissues. If the muscles are warm they will steal the focus away from the joints.

There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose

Use as many props as needed in Yin Yoga! Blocks, bolsters and straps are all great ways to support your body to make sure you are respecting your edge and not going too far.

I started Yin Yoga six years ago, after the lost of my mother, with this video and it changed my life completely!
You helped me getting over the lost and to allow myself to deeply rest in my daily life. Since then Yin Yoga is a regular practice for me. I especially love the way you allow quiet time, I understand that many instructors want to share their philosophy, but it can be distracting during a Yin class.

Thank you. I have been a life-long fitness enthusiast(starting in the 80s), dancer and aerobics instructor. With my diagnosis of MS, my flexibility has become horrible. I finally decided to get out of my own way and start yoga. Your class is easy to follow and I now feel like I may be able to get my flexibility back. That will go a long way in helping me keep running even after 15 years of MS. Thank you!!

I promise I kept my fidgeting to a minimum. This is the third hour long video of hers that I have tried and now have added to my list of routines to choose for my daily yoga practice. I started off earlier this year with 10-15 min videos, then 25-30, maybe doing two videos back to back. I have taken the plunge into committing to a full hour. I didn’t think I could keep my mind from wandering but I try to stay in the moment, focusing on the pose and what I am trying to accomplish. I prefer these slower, Yin classes since I’ve got knots to work out. I’m getting there. I love this girl - she’s amazing!
