Merciful End has become my go to build, I've made it up to 15 heat and counting with it

Best Ares build (other than every time I've had Hunting Blades) I ever got was with regular old Zagreus aspect spear, and I had the triple dash attack and exploding special attack hammer buffs. I had Athena attack and Ares special attack boons, along with Ares cast and dash. I didn't even have a call. What I DID have was Ares/Athena duo boon, which makes doom proc after an enemy gets hit with an attack that reflects.

I just threw the spear (which exploded, putting doom on everything) dash attacked in (which procs the doom), did a spinning attack, and casted all over the place.

I was at like 20 heat and rooms died in 5 or so seconds.

I managed to get Ares into a perfect place one time when I had mostly Athena boons. I had Doom on my special (Curse of Pain), Impending Doom, and Deflect on my attack (Divine Strike) and got their duo boon, Merciful End, which causes the Doom effect to trigger immediately when struck by a Deflect capable attack. The weapon I was using was Malphon with the Talos aspect but there are several other juicy possibilities, I think. The end result was me running around the pack of goons until I get snatch one out and murder him. Doesn't function as well in Styx, obviously, but it was unusually safe for my Malphon builds thus far.

Ares was probably my least picked god when I first started playing the game. Now I almost never turn him down and am routinely doing multiple thousands in a single Doom crit by the time I get to Elysium.

Important Question: does Bloodfrenzy stack? Could help against the Final Boss

dire misfortune is overpowered if you are using aspect of rama bow and have hammer +4 special arrows, doom on special and some other boons as well like...impending doom, hermes faster special... prob my favourite combo :)
