As a new deacon to the catholic church, I could hardly get through my first homily. I nearly quit right in the middle. My second homily wasn't much better. Over time, however, I seemed to be able to tolerate it.

Many many weeks later I stumbled upon a realization that enabled me to transition from merely tolerating it to actually enjoying it. The first thing that I realized is that I'm popular with people as I deal with them on a one on one basis. But, for whatever reason, I always hid my personality when I spoke in front of the congregation. I read the words like a nervous, self conscious robot.

I decided that from now on, everyone will see the actual me just as I am if you see me one on one. I learned not to care if I occasionally stumbled over a word as it's so normal and _natural_ to do.

The second thing to realize is that I have something profoundly important, not to mention very interesting, to say. Don't focus on the crowd. Focus on how interesting the content of what you're saying really is. And then, let the audience see how excited you are about what you're saying while being yourself (as you said in the video). Then you'll believe that they'll also find what you have to say to be very interesting. The ones who do not either have a dull mind or simply aren't paying attention.

My fear is messing up too. I signed up to participate in a Christmas play at my church I have fear of messing up but want to be perfect! I get on stage and freeze and my brain goes blank, but I know the words! Tomorrow is the day. Please pray for me everyone!

I’m walking back to God and I’m not sure if I can stand in front of everyone to perform because of how sinful I have been
