Maces Would SUCK Against Dragons

Maces would suck against Dragons.

Is it Shadiversity who says "but what about dragons"? Well... Dragons.

Yes, I do plan on more videos that will discuss what weapons and tactics will be good against fantasy creatures. However, this one was on my mind.

I should write more here for algorithm purposes, but ehh. Doing formal Search Engine Optimization stuff is so tedious, and it hasn't had a noticeable impact on my other videos.

Fighting a dragon head on even with an army would likely end up catastrophically. Dragons generally live inside dungeons or caves, stuff like that... so maybe you could collapse an entrance, sealing the dragon inside

The thing is that a human's squishable organs and crushable bones are under a relatively thin layer of cushioning muscle, which isn't even terribly dense compared to some other animals.

If we scale that up to "gigantic beast with apex predator physiology" then on top of there being more stuff in between the weapon and the organs, that stuff also generally has to be stronger and more robust to support the mass of such a creature. You now have less a cushion and more an entire couch to transfer force through before a blunt impact causes more than some admittedly painful bruising.

And people forget that dragons are intelligent, even more than humans.
If they weren't so cocky it would be impossible to actually defeat one

Okay, to be completely fair here, no weapon specialized to fight humans is going to be all that affective against dragons. Even grizzly bears, which are significantly smaller than dragons or elephants, are known to shrug off common handgun calibers like 9 mm and even some shotgun rounds

I would also guess that dragon scales would be much thicker and denser than human armor

I would love to see a video of you going over dragon killing strategy's and what weapons would work or be developed to fight them and how would be possible to fight one on one

When fighting a dragon I would also want reach.. running up with a mace is a really good way to become dinner.

And speaking of armoured animals, were the war elephants from Alexander the Great's time completely unarmored? You would think they would provide at least a small amount of protection.

Actual armor piercing would probably be more reliable than trying to crush the scales or even better, aiming for weak, unarmored points.

Maybe if you use the Mace to shatter the scales, now you can cut it. Mace can be super useful on utility in this aspect, as you said there's still feet of muscle. Maybe if you can break the armor on some spots, you can actually stab it now, or you and/or your buddies could then use bows or some other ranged option to hit the new weak spots.

My opinion? Mace not good as primary weapon for dragons, but can be a very good armor breaking tool, possibly. This has to be a fantasy setting cause dragons, so I would assume you'd be strong enough to be able to get close and bash said scales apart

So, I know nothing about hunting “real” dragons, but if mythology taught me something is that storm Gods always defeat them, would a hammer charged with lightning be useful against a dragon’s tough scales?

best thing to look at for dragon killing weapons is tools used on woolly mammoths. we hunted them to extinction basically and they match up to the threat level of a "small" dragon. large armored animals with front facing weapons. only thing you would need to account for is differences in armor and the dragon flies. the ancient atlatl would probably be your best bet at taking down a dragon if you had enough people and got the jump on it.
