I find this the scariest scene in the trilogy. As opposed to the previous scene in the wilderness, you see both Gollum and Sméagol in the same shot without seeing either of their faces. You don’t see them as two individuals like how the camera shows in other scenes but it allows you to simply imagine how conflicted one’s body has become by hosting two personalities. It’s also heartbreaking as Gollum returns to Sméagol again too. Andy Serkis is a genius for giving such a groundbreaking performance!

Every relapse in a nutshell. Depression. Suicidal thoughts. Alcohol. Addiction. You name it. "Smeeaaaggool..."

That’s genuinely eerie to see how seamlessly he alternates between Gollum and Sméagol and how his Gollum side almost completely takes over (and ultimately wins out) when Sméagol is so lost (in every sense of the word) and vulnerable. Andy Serkis deserves every acting award in the world for his performance.

Gollum was never a bad person. He was merely driven insane by the ring.

One of my favorite scenes through the trilogy.

Smeagol, my poor baby! *cries* Seriously, this does make me cry. Smeagol was properly lost when Gollum came back. I h8 Faramir for that.

Andy Serkis deserved an Oscar, and I don’t just mean for the mo-cap work. He made Sméagol and Gollum two completely different people, and that would be a hard enough job to do with live-action, but having to do it for CGI makes it all that much harder.

Notice when he transitions into gollum, the dark and twisted personality, he consoles smeagle by rubbing on his shoulder. Then smeagle stops rubbing the shoulder and proceeds to weep. It’s a subtle yet genius detail. Andy was amazing, really captured how deep the split personality really was.

Faramir heard all this, and let Gollum go with Sam and Frodo

Faramir made Sméagol go insane, so Sméagol saw Gollum’s plan as the only right thing to do.

I hated Faramir in Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers. I like Faramir better in Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King.

Faramir: What did they steal?
Gollum: My Precious! (Gollum screams)

The scene is straight up from a Mob scenario. They did Sméagol so bad.

Faramir and his men mistreated Gollum in order to get information about the mission of Frodo and Sam. What a gang of cowards.
