I updating the “V” brace design to replace wood with steel going through 38 foot 2 x 6 strongbacks. The strongback (split in 3rd’s ) to the deck is one 2 x 6 laying on it’s side screwed to bottom of deck, then another 2 x 6 stood up screwed to the side of the sleeper. Once that is done, then 3/4 steel rod some 20 + feet long runs through 1 inch hole in the sleeper in a 45 (degree) from center of deck back out to each side of the house and bolts at both ends in a Simson bolt hanger. From there, the 30 foot triangle “adjusts rack”. And no more need for “Y” braces ever again in life, a much cleaner look.

The cold sales calls I can understand, they just have a list of phone numbers to call. What gets me is when they go door to door. It’s obvious if my work van is in the driveway that I’m a contractor, but they ring the doorbell anyway and ask if we want replacement windows. Also from our driveway you can see that we must have solar panels but we get the occasional salesperson trying to sell us on going solar.
