There are the good samaritan laws in the US where untrained responders are almost completely protected from litigation in the case of improper treatment.

Trained responders are less protected, and are subject to malpractice if they are responding in the line of duty (in their job).

Even so, AEDs are very difficult to use to deliver a shock of the wrong sort or when not indicated. They measure the type of heart activity waveform and decide what sort of shock to give based on that and the age of the patient. Non-automated defibrillators requiring a human to make these decisions are only really found in professional medical settings.

I've always wondered who calibrates the calibrating machines and who calibrates the calibrating calibrating machines etc. etc. etc.

Regarding 19:33: Thank you! A big problem I have with it, other than the government endorsement of religious beliefs, is the "we" part. For those who want the slogan on there, speak for yourself! Don't include me in your superstition.

really excited about the upcoming defibrillator teardown! just finished med school and as we have been practicing a lot with the these (the professional ones however) it would be really interesting to see what's inside!

They pretty much must accept the coins if they would normally accept the notes. You can also confuse cashiers with our $2 notes, which aren't commonly used.

128G of ram!  Dang.  I'm so old, I thought an 8088 with 640K of ram & a 40M HDD was silly overkill.

I would really love it if you managed to capture the output pulse of the defibrillator on the oscilloscope! HV probe or some voltage divider thingy! Do it do it.

5:46 - Always thought that was "Floridian" (Floor-iD-Eann)... And interestingly was the code name for the original IBM PC Project, as the IBM office working on it was in Florida...

make a large RAM Drive or a pair (one for each CPU) to render your video instead of using the Hard drive even an SSD

Dave - if you populate every dimm slot on your dual Xeon board then be sure to get a fan blowing across them. The spreaders are worth about 5C but without active cooling the gaps between the dimms aren't enough to stop them heating each other up under full load. The dimms have on-chip temp sensors that you can watch with hwmonitor (free) to see the effect. I found this out the hard way (blown dimm). Handbrake can be a great dimm killer...

When The Simpsons make fun of any other country (including australia and in brazil case say that the money look gay) it is fine.
When dave make a argument of the separation of the state and the church is a contradiction to the "In God We Trust" on the money... people get offended.

The ridges or text around the edge of the dollar coins makes it harder to shave a bit off the edges and melt down the shavings and still be able to use the coins.

In US, notes were changed to have "in god we trust" in the 50s, however the coins were changed shortly after the Civil War.

On an i7 laptop, I've only ever gotten to 14.5GB out of 16GB RAM usage when rendering 2K resolution jpeg2000 frames for use in DCPs. That was with After Effects and Premiere both open and with the projects active.

I was going to say with the server machine is one way to obviously get more out of a multi-threaded system is just to do 2 tasks at once, sort of like having two computers. This may be/be not worth the total wattage...
