Ferrite block is probably an RF absorber, not thermal

The EEVBlog is quite possibly the only content provider I can think of where I'm happy to sit and watch someone open mail for 46 minutes and enjoy every second. Great work! Now how about a teardown ;)

Dave: I bet that the room monitor is for server rooms, to monitor temperature and humidity as well as see who has entered the room and whether there is flooding, etc.

You were wearing the shirt early on during the static test of the fluke...then later unboxed that same shirt...
you were doing the tiiiime-warp....

They sell the same soldering iron here in the Philippines and a similar one which has a bamboo handle. They're pretty much considered as disposable for one-off jobs. They cost 50-70 PHP or around $1.20 (USD).

Aww, Sagan is adorable as ever. I get a kick of it when he's on!

I'm using a modified AC voltage detector taped to the incoming hydro lines before the AC usage meter and main junction disconnect switch to know when the Main Power comes back ON while running in Generator mode. Works like a charm.

In my oppinion, the longer the Mailbag segment, the better. Real neat stuff today

I think this video set a record for the highest number of different t-shirts worn in an episode. I think it was 4 but I wasn't counting and didn't go back and check. One artifact of the editing meant that we saw the "Danger, RF radiation" shirt  being worn before it was seen coming out of the box in which it was sent.

I bet the red frisbee is meant to be a loose parts tray under the Panavise.

I recently got a Unisonic calculator from 1976 with a VFD display. Problems that it had were: Bad corroded buttons and that included the power button as well. I got all the keys working except from the power button which still has to be pressed down a bit harder to actually work. It has a RockWell ic as well, which means that alot of calculators used them.

Massachusetts here, Boston specifically. About 7 million people in this state. We are officially called Bay Staters but many go by MassHoles.

The APC camera uses a standard CS-mount, which is used on CCTV cameras, so you could replace the lens if the supplied one doesn't meet your needs. Since it seems to be their only CCTV product, maybe it's a collaboration with an established CCTV manufacturer (the USB would be to have APC's stuff talk to the CCTV part).

45 mins is perfect, an hour is nice, *if* there's a couple of extra teardowns. Otherwise, loved this mailbag. And loved Sagan popping by. :) Fun stuff as usual Dave, keep it up. Looking forward to seeing Dave Jr. (intern) on a video.

Just a little FYI, Kan Jam was originated in North Tonawanda, NY.

20:46 Another cool demonstration is putting the detector near your wireless LAN router while you are watching eeVblog on your tablet and it will flicker as the router transmits its signal

I have a Rapidman 1208 LC desktop calculator, with an unusual rear illuminated LCD. It has a standard incandescent lamp that backlights a white on black LCD. It's just a little four banger as well.

Rockwell and Texas Instruments produced the earliest LSI calculator chip sets. Many brands purchased chipsets from those two companies, and did their own designs. The keyboard on that Rapidman you were sent looks like a TI Klixon keyboard, just with smaller keycaps than is traditional.

LOL, I can always use a Rapidman! XD

I'll post pics on the forum

39:46 - I like the modularity but running supply currents through "Berg Sticks" is a bit "how ya doin' " :)
