Best 32:9 - Samsung OLED G9 vs 57” 4K Neo G9 Monitor
Ok look 32:9 might be a disaster for gaming, but I get the appeal it’s 2 monitors in one with no bezel, and when it’s PROPERLY supported it can be very immersive, so if your looking forward to staring at a screen cross eyed then you’ve come to the right place, because today we’re gonna discuss which is the absolute best 32:9 monitor.
Is it the 49” OLED G9, the 57” Mini LED Neo G9, or do they both just stink.
Well to get to the bottom of it let’s do a head to head comparison based on my time using both behind closed doors, and first we gotta start off with the basic specs
So in left corner we have the OLED G9 with a 3440x1440 resolution at 49 inches and a refresh rate of 240Hz, and creeping in behind the McDonald’s dumpster on the right with spaghetti stains all over it’s mouth we have the 2023 Neo G9 which is a mini LED 57” 7680x2160 monitor also sporting a 240Hz refresh rate.
So in terms of resolution it’s an absolute blowout win for the Neo G9 as we’re talking over 16.5Megapixels vs around 4.9 on the OLED G9 which means yes images will be far more crisp and detailed on the larger Neo G9, but it ain’t gonna be easy to run even on a 4090, and as many of you might know resolution ain’t everything in fact sometimes There's things you which you hadn’t seen so clearly,
And speaking of clarity we gotta talk about the finish, and this time it’s a complete blowout win for the OLED G9 as it has a glossy finish which while it can get somewhat washed out when faced with direct light, in a darker room you will get far better clarity, vibrancy, and contrast than the Neo G9 will offer with its god forsaken matte finish, which is an absolute crime to use on such a nice monitor considering how much it will defile the image quality.
But what about the HDR performance, and here we won’t know for sure until we get retail samples, and some of this will come down to preference as mini LED tends to get brighter and OLED has more micro contrast, but overall I’d say the OLED G9 will be the winner in this regard thanks to OLED’s perfect dark levels and per pixel control. Plus QD OLED tends to be a step above regular WOLED you might be used to and in TVs especially is just better across the board than mini LED at this point.
Now I’m terms of size I think this a big win for the 57” Neo G9, because sure it's big, but it’s exactly as large as 2 31.5” monitors which height wise especially at it’s much higher resolution makes it far more immersive. Honestly I think the height on 34” 21:9 monitors is just too slim and the same will be true for the 49” OLED G9, but some of this may come to your personal preference and desk space.
And finally we have speed where OLED wins hands down due to its near instantaneous response times.
So which should you buy? Honestly it’s a hard question to answer because the size and resolution of the Neo G9 are much much better, which is a huge deal, but the tech and finish on the OLED G9 is also much better, and that’s really important.
For me a matte finish is pretty much a deal breaker, but I have seen some that I could live with, so it depends on how aggressive the final model is, but ultimately I’d say if you can live with a matte finish the Neo G9 will be a better choice, but if you prefer the increased color and vibrancy you get with glossy and your ok with a lower resolution then the OLED G9 is the better choice.
But honestly they’re both well over $2,000 so you probably shouldn’t buy either of them considering that price and their retina assaulting faults. Plus it’s Samsung, so based on my experience chances are the Neo G9 will have scanlines and half of them will have dead pixels or other issues, so good luck finding a good model, but hey maybe Samsung QC has improved, and if so then I’m sure you’ll be impressed by either option.
