To help you answer your questions, we examined 1,001 linked LinkedIn resumes of people who are currently working as data scientists to see where exactly they come from and what skills they’re using in their day-to-day activities.

The main messages we extracted from our study both last and this year, is that if you have the skill base that makes a data scientist, you can be a data scientist. It will be interesting to see how the data science profession changes in the next 2-5 years, but right now, a universal data scientist profile appears to be taking shape: a unique programming language toolbox desired across industries and locations, preferably a Master’s degree, or a Bachelor’s, proof of practical abilities and a confident learning-on-the-go attitude are the currencies of the field.

365 Data Science is an online educational career website that offers the incredible opportunity to find your way into the data science world no matter your previous knowledge and experience. We have prepared numerous courses that suit the needs of aspiring BI analysts, Data analysts and Data scientists.

We at 365 Data Science are committed educators who believe that curiosity should not be hindered by inability to access good learning resources. This is why we focus all our efforts on creating high-quality educational content which anyone can access online.

I just started my career as a data scientist in London after completing university, I love it, it's such a fun job and it pays well on top of that

The learning process for this field is a blast, learning to code with Python is very satisfying. Just get a Raspberry Pi and have fun. Learn and wear it out. I love mine.

I'm doubtful of my career before watching this video, but now I've decided to keep going. Thanks a lot.

Healthcare applications are growing exponentially too especially in 2020

Data science is more mathematics (probabilities and statistics) than anything else. Remember that data science was there way before computers with powerful cpu and gpu. Algorithms are just used to solve an overall math problem. Computer science background would make good data scientists. Applied mathematics background would make better data scientists.

It seems like a great career. I’m a financial analyst right now but I already know SQL and Power BI. I’d like to add Python and R to my repertoire so I can move to a role where I can combine my existing finance knowledge with data science

I liked the way that this video put emphasis on artifical intelligence skills for data analysis right at the beginning of the video.
I think that being able to know how to use AI for a datanalysis would be mandatory in the next few years.
I've heard that to be able to program AI, you'll need a solid knowledge of Maths ... Oh boy, it will get harder to get a job in this field.

Thanks for this explanation. So it seems like today’s Data Scientists is a hybrid of Computer Programmer and Business Analysts. Makes sense since it is cheaper to hire one person that can program and then analyze the data rather than having 2 people with one dedicated for programming and the other one dedicated for data analysis.

I am a mathematitian with 18 years of experience. And been using most of those algorithms for almost all my life plus using C/C++ as the main language. Why trying to reinvent the wheel by renaming(Data Scientist) something that's been there for years already besides Pattern Recognition and NLP algos orfourse?

I’m really sorry to chime in but honestly I can dumb this down, basically anyone can do it. It’s all programming and having the softer skills to explain the models that you create. either using python, R or SQL (I know there is Golang in there upcoming thanks to Gota etc)or some combination. This should be combined with some understanding of the technical landscape of the client. Honestly it shouldn’t take you more than a year give or take if you put the minimum amount of dedication into it. I’m looking forward to the future developments in this field!

A certain college in my area is offering data science boot camp as continuing ed. I have GED only but I self-taught myself SQL and Python through my job and now working around reporting team. Can I upgrade my resume to Data scientist after I take the boot camp? Or is there a specific requirement I need to complete?
