You just condensed 45 minutes worth of textbook reading into 5 minutes and 47 seconds, you can have my subscription, my good sir.

Very well explained! Thank you for your video, it helped me a lot! I'm actually having a hard time because of our modules right now due to this pandemic. This just helped me in our first lesson.

True, sometimes you have a function where it is not easy to test if its not a one-to-one function. In this case, make a table -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 for f(x) and make a quick graph, its easy to tell that way

This is really good! I'm taking calc over the summer and I was tripped out how to algebraically determine if a function is one-to-one. At first, I thought odd functions were one-to-one but that is not always the case. You made it really easy to determine if a function is one-to-one by putting two disparate input values and obtained two unique output values.

This was a really helpful method; however, the only fallacy that I see in this is when graphing unique functions such as an algebraic one (not a power function such as x^2 or x^3), the end behavior tends to be more sporadic. Without using a graphing utility (because my professor does not allow one RIP) how can you use determine if a function is one-to-one if there are certain values where that will make it no a one-to-one function? (if that makes sense)

I know I might be a little late to the party but i'm a bit confused on how you choose the numbers to plug in for the equation side. If given just the equation, I understand you are plugging in inputs to see if an output is ever repeated to cancel its ability to be a function but I don't quite understand how you are choosing the numbers. Is it just a guess and check situation? or is there something that I am missing completely

Thank you!!! 9 PowerPoints summed up in one video you rock!

How do you know which numbers to test? Why did you pick 1 and 3?

Wow, thank you so much for this explanation.
It really helped.

How'd did you know which numbers to pick?

for the last one, finding out if a given function has two outputs or not- couldn't you just see that its a second degree function therefore graphs as a parabola and has two outputs? isn't that easier?

How’d you pick 1 and 3? Do I just have guess until I pick the right ones?

It is not feasible to test all numbers, hence it is impossible to know which ones to use, hence this method is not useful.

But if it's not a function, can it still be one to one?

but I came here with x+sin(x). This question is way complex than your examples
