I'm warning every PS5 user to think twice before cleaning your PlayStation 5 cooling fan. Don't make the same mistake these Reddit users did when cleaning your PS5 because it will be a costly repair.. Many PS5 users have made this catastrophic mistake that breaks the cooling fan connector power supply wire which causes issues with the PlayStation 5 internal fan. I might get crucified for saying this but I’ve never ever cleaned my consoles internally and they all still run super smooth and are quiet.

You don't need to disconnect the fan. The cable is long enough, just lift the fan and put it on top of the console. Clean it. Vacuum it. Put it back in place. I've done this 3 times now and console it's fine.

i've definitely done this type of damage to other devices where i was plenty careful. usually there would be nothing ripping off of the PCB in a really bad way or anything but i've definitely had female connector housings just slide up the pins like they wanted to go to space. IMO if your PS5 isn't obnoxiously loud, you should get by just fine from the raw pressure of a brand new can of air from your local grocery store or pharmacy. no need to take it apart.

This also happens a lot with the PS4 Pro. I've cleaned mine a few times and noticed that the connector is extremely stubborn and it takes great care NOT to rip it off. I've watched quite a few videos of it being repaired both on PS4 Pro and PS5 units.

Though I’m sure it’s known, you can effectively clean it without disconnecting the harness. You can easily sit it on top of your ps5 or simply hold it and use a microfiber towel and q-tip for the hard to reach places.

Also take note that the four screws holding it are different lengths.

I literally just cleaned my fan probably 24 hours before this video and was a bit confused on where to pull. Luckily, I had no issues. Also, I have Dark Plates installed and there was very minimal dust and dirt compared to with the OG factory plates. Thanks for the vid.

The connector on the board is the male end; it has the pins.

I have always cleaned my fans without removing the connector. If you are just careful enough with the wires and not twist them, u are good just like that.

I think it should be said that this kind of connector is usually very tight, and might brake even when pulling correctly the detachable part. So, if it is too tight, it might be better to use another technique, other tools or leave it alone.

I watched your video simultaneously while taking apart my console last week and did it without issue. I did find it challenging to pull out the fan connector initially, but after a bit of finessing, it came right out. Appreciate all of the great content and information! I would have definitely destroyed my PS5 with your guidance!

Once removed you could put a very small amount of Dielectric grease on the pins, making removal of the plug a lot easier the next time maintenance is needed.

Great video. You have the the terminology between male and female connectors mixed by the way. The female is the plug with the holes and the male socket has the pins

I use to use 2 pairs of Hemostats by disconnecting other devices that were just like that.
(Don't lock too tight or not at all, all types different)
One to hold the Female connector down and one to carefully wiggle the Male end out.
When I was young I used to take all kinds of things apart and try to fix or clean them.
My favorite was listening on a personal home call using an old television with the old knobs.
I could hear everything being said including the person they were talking to.
I haven't gotten a PS5 yet because of cost and waiting for more testing for better improvements.

PLEASE
DON'T EVER rewire a N64 controller cord with a NES Gun.
It will knock out your N64, but I was lucky to cool down the power supply cord in front of an AC fan window unit.
Why did I do it?
Back then I wanted to use a gun playing Perfect Dark

I've had consoles since NES and Sega Master system, every Playstation and pretty much every console in the last 35 years. Ive never had a system fail, never had to take 1 apart or clean one. These things are not meant to be played for 8 hours straight, If you play reasonable hours, keep your home and the area the unit is in clean they will last for a long time, I still have an orignal SNES that runs like it did when it was new.
