Small Engine Repair Honda Won't Start?

Another thing to check that I did not mention in the video is some engines like this one has a low oil sensor and if the oil level is not high enough the engine will die and not start.

It doesn't matter if you have a Harbor Freight predator engine, a nice Honda, Tecumseh, or Briggs motor they are all set up the same with similar components. This videos shows some of the main causes for your engine not starting. Since its getting cold you'll want your snow blower or generator to start right up. Since this is a small engine it will work for your go kart, tiller, pump, generator, snow blower, mower, edger or whatever you have in your garage.

Here are some simple tips to check and if those don't work it might be the carburetor.
1. Check gas
2. Check on/off switch
3. Check spark
4. Check oil level
5. Check carb.

I've been working on small engines for about 20 years and almost every time an engine has been sitting over winter the carburetor is gummed up and needs to be cleaned.

Thank you so much!i was able to to fix it without removing the whole carburetor just removed the gas bowl and used a sawing needle to clean the port passage and now it’s working again.

I learned two things on my last Briggs carb clean and diagnosis:

When i removed spark plug and pushed possible air/fuel out of cylinder, i cleaned lightly with my starting fluid. When i tested for spark... it lit my light spray off fluid. Hard for my eyes to look for spark... but easy to see a 2 second fire! (I will actually purposely use this method in the future!).
Secondly, my single bottom bolt to the carb bowl supplies the main jet! I used my torch tip cleaner kit, dupray, and comoresser air... she fitted right up! Fresh gas, a bit of mystery oil... and my freebee pressure washer is on its way for use!

The choke(white) lever can be removed & the round pin on it placed in the end of fuel line. Instead of crimping the fuel line

Thank you 😊 my engine is now going after watching this video the tiny hole in the jet in the carb was blocked very hard to see but I used a bristle from a wire brush to poke clean the engine started straight away also did not have to take apart as much just take 2 bolts of at the cup then use small flat head to unscrew the brass jet used a wire brush bristle to clean it engine going in 10 minutes 😀 👍

There is another needle jet above the small jet you screwed off, it sometimes falks out or you tap the sides and it comes out

I have a greyhound 6.5 it’s similar to those engines. All it needed was a pitcock for the gas tank. Started up and ran beautifully when we poured gas in the carb without the gas tank. Now we got the gas talk on and tried starting it even after we poured a lil gas in the carb it didn’t want to start at all

Thank you very much, you posited 99% starting engine problems are cloged port passage problems. I followed your instructions, and cleaned the carburetor ports and voilà that fixed my starting problem, it was an easy process and only took me about 30 minutes from start to finish.
