We picked up this cheap Honda HRN 216 for $20 on FB Marketplace. It was running poorly due to a clogged air filter. We also changed the oil. Now it's running great and looking good!

Man you basically stole that thing for that price. I just picked up the same mower used for only one summer for $300. Blades were untouched and it was ran with ethanol free gas so it was basically brand new so still a good deal but not as good as yours. Its my first honda mower and i absolutely love it. Worth every penny.

The engine creates a vaccum in the combustion chamber due to the air filter being clogged and struggling for air. That vaccum results in the engine running rich and oil being sucked from the crank case.

Nice find. I picked one up for 60 with everything new in the box. Needed and replaced the Petcock, Air filter. I swapped blades 😊 out for the gator blade on the Honda, I'm using the Briggs and Stratton TB230 for backup. Started up when I picked it up she just needed routine maintenance. Twice the blade came loose on me. Wrong bolt was in the shaft. I used a flat and lock washer for extra security. Seems to be legit now. Great information that you shared. Thumbs 👍

Man it’s amazing what you can get just because the carburetor is dirty, valve lash is out of tolerance, oil is low (on some horizontal shaft engines) or an air filter is clogged! It’s just amazing!!

Picked up my Honda-powered mower for 20 bucks. The previous owner had messed up the multiple gaskets around the carb and air box so bad that it had a surging problem...something that was easy to fix by looking up the parts diagram and following the instructions. It's an example of how Hondas are great, but their complexity when compared with a Briggs isn't for everyone.

ALSO THIS : Always tip the mower AWAY from the air filter, because the fuel seepage through the carb will ruin the filter and choke the engine. You can't un-ruin a paper air filter.

Around here, any mower priced under $50 is usually a cheap brand that shows years of hard use, possibly w part missing. Unfortunately, you aren't going to find any shiny Hondas for that price, even if they run rough.

The achilles heel on these HRN/HRX mowers are the carbs, the bad paint on the steel decks and the rear drive. My mower is only 4 years old, I've had to replace the carb because of surging, the axle bushings/bearings and rebuild the rear drive. I've already spent half what I paid for it when new,
