For anyone looking to do this. The windows come out really easily, even the back one.
All of those little black screws on the inside, take an electric screwing device of choice, and take em all out. Then that ring comes off, and the window comes out.

When I moved half way across the country I found one that fit my Ram for $45. It was purple. I only painted the sides and rear. Two years later I sold it to a friend that had a Tundra for $45.

I picked one up for $150 for my Tacoma it was a darker gray compared to the silver truck but didn’t look bad. I rocked it like that for a while then got the truck painted including the topper and now it looks mint

The other consideration in a used cap is the condition of the window seals. My old Leer 8’ bed top leaks like a sieve in the rain, and no one, factory included, is willing to replace the windows. I’ve tried sealing them myself, but the cap flexes too much, I guess. No matter how much I try I can’t keep water out. The price of a new one is over half what I paid for my truck!

Ngl, that rustolium is solid stuff for coming out of a can. I did a two tone to my white truck, did the bottom black with rattle can. That was like 8 years ago and it still looks good haha.

I picked up a free cap off CL for my black truck, it too was red, but one that was 4ft tall. I sanded it down a bit, masked off the windows and sprayed it with Rustoleum bed liner. It looks great and I don't have to worry about scratching it. I can wash it with scrub brush if I want. I did the bed liner for two reasons, one was that I know that if I painted it with glossy paint to match the truck, I'd never be able to reach the top to wash or wax up there so the bed liner would weather better in the sun, and two, I figured it would see some use in the woods and knew a cap that size would be pushing through some branches as well and bed liner is very scratch resistant. I did the same thing to my last truck and it looked fine after 14 years. The texture that the bedliner gave me is almost the same as what Jeep used to have on their black hardtops on the CJ and Wrangler models. Sort of like 220 grit wet dry sandpaper.

You do nice work, I find the problem with Rustoluim is it doesn’t have a hardner in it, and I have had the clear coat react with the base coat , not every time ? But it has bit me in the a$$ a few times
