How do gun owners de-escalate a violent situation?
De-escalation is the deliberate use of manner, words, and actions to help calm heightened emotions and focus attention on resolving problems. The goal of de-escalation is to avoid violence.
So in our class, the primary skill we teach is de-escalation. The most important way to de-escalate a violent situation is to be extremely aware of your surroundings, identifying people who are exhibiting behavior that does not match your baseline for what you expect to be normal behavior. This is what we call a pre-incident indicator.
We carry guns for self-defense and to protect our loved ones' lives. A gun is not a symbol of bravery or a toy; it is a tool.
