If you need to use a bunch of Windows programs... Linux is going to be rough! .

I'm a long term Linux user (since 2009), but just like Windows, Linux is a tool, not a religion. If the tool doesn't work for you, use something that will. 👍

Simple, realistic, honest👍🏻 use the right system for the right use case, thats it.

One thing about the Linux community is that you could say like "When can we expect 10 bit color or fractional scaling working" and there will always be someone going like "Why do we need to support this, anything more than 1080p 60 Hz 8 bit is luxury and enthousiast grade!" or someone else saying "Yeah, a $150 monitor is cheap for you, but think about the people who live in low income countries!".

As a longtime Linux user who has taken college courses which require the use of Microsoft software, I 1000% agree.

I think I am one of the few who have been able to make the 100% jump to Linux a few months ago. Partly because I am a user without great needs in the Windows world. Since I have always been a Windows user, for more than 20 years, I have tried not to be trapped forever in the ecosystem... Choosing programs for everyday use that do not bind me to it irremediably. I only use a very specific program for which I need Windows. I have put it in a virtual machine.
I feel much freer, although there is a learning curve behind it. I feel much more at peace and comfortable with life and digital freedom. No longer be at the expense of the whims and interests of the large corporations in power. I have taken control 100%. I understand that for many people it is the least of priorities. For me it has been like going back to the beginning as far as sensations are concerned. It is worth overcoming yourself if you are aware of what your privacy, control and digital freedom are worth.

I went back to Windows after using Linux for 3 years. For gaming it just makes more sense as the software for certain hardware I have is only on windows. And my Radeon GPU has access to the Radeon control panel which isn't on Linux. With that I can customize driver level features on a per game basis

the problem with dual booting is you start only using one of the operating systems (usually windows) for everything

It's about using the right tool for the right job. For instance, If you are a musician, you might want to use Logic Pro on a Mac.

Good advice. I used to run Linux with a VM running windows. It actually worked really well, although it was slower but I wasn't using Windows extensively, so it didn't matter. Later I needed a program that just didn't run well in the VM so I just set up another computer and have a switch setup using the same keyboard mouse. Since essentially all my work is saved to the cloud, most of the time I can switch between environments smoothly. When I need to use the Windows machine, I do. When I don't, I don't.

I was using a lot of open source and shareware, so switching was easy back in 2009. I do still use my licensed copy of Goldwave under Wine.

Back when I was still dual booting, I've had both OSes setup in a way that let me run Windows installation in a VM inside Linux and run Linux installation in a VM inside Windows.
While Linux was like a honey badger and didn't care at all if it runs in a VM or on real HW. Windows had some objections. But in the end decided to cooperate too.

If proprietary/paid software companies produced quality, we wouldn't be so compelled to look elsewhere.

This isn't even just an OS thing. In the Enterprise realm, the reason to pay for supported software (FOSS or proprietary) is to reduce the manhours needed in the event of a problem. The problem is that the quality of the products and support have fallen abysmally that you end up spending just as much or more time working with support to solve problems.

If you manage it, I think that using unsupported FOSS, solving your own problems, and contributing the solutions to the upstream project has reached the point of being the best strategy. Software vendors have lost the plot on what differentiates them.

Depends on the app mix, but I'd like people to try having a Linux base with Xen, Proxmox, or VirtualBox running Windows and the apps you need.

Linux will never ever be a drop in replacement for Windows. Stick with Windows or be prepared to learn new ways of doing things

Gaming is a good example of this. Proton has been an amazing layer and its really made linux work as a gaming platform, but not for everything. Valorant, and soon League, is a goof example of this, because the anti-cheat is not linux compatible, and thats a similar issue with tons of multiplayer games on linux sadly.

My main PC is windows and all focused on gaming, because everything else I want to do can be done on linux, and linux can run on smaller, more portable devices with very low performance hit, so for productivity I use Linux, for gaming, Windows. I do hope that changes one day.

I stopped using linux because when switching to windows (dual boot) to do some tasks, and while on Windows I could do any tasks I used to do on Linux, switch back to Linux only because stopped make sense for me...

its not only about preparatory apps but with the OS in full. I try multiple times to switch to windows but whatever i do when i need to fix something or trying to install an app i have to go to my nemesis. The terminal.

Chris agree 💯% with you..
Dual boot is one Way if your job, company etc needs to run runtime stuff and programs.. I'm using dual boot years... Linux for development stuff and code stuff and windows for job daily use 😉

Hi Titus,
Love your Videos.
They've helped me a lot!
I DO AGREE FULLY WITH YOUR COMMENTARIES.
I work with LinuxMint 21.2 happy ever after and - nevertheless - have to switch to Win 10 to work my *.pdf with Adobe... as I haven't found similar pdf-editor in Linux.

Dude has a point. I have been using Linux nearly exclusively for 10+ years now and just 2 years ago got rid of my Windows partition entirely and I agree. If you really wanna use it dual boot first. Try the programs you have to use or see if some open source alternatives work out for you. Another thing to try is working those open source alternatives into your life. If you can manage to get your work done using only those programs then you can make the switch fine.
