It's same with indonesian but different situation, in indonesia we dont say "why did u do that? I told u to not doing it" but we only say "kan" 😂😂

I was 5 months in Japan as an exchange student and afterwards I always did that. So much better, but I had to stop doing it at one point, because it caused confusion more often than not

In Tagalog we do something similar. We say "a (ah but a bit longer)" or "o (o in orange but longer)". We usually do this to people we're closer with because it's not that rude to do with them. If it's people we don't know or not too close with we say "a talaga, talaga po ba, a ganoon/ganon ba or a ganoon/ganon po ba".

I would use "he, sona ndesu ka?" Instead just "he". Usually when i use "he" with my jp friend, he would just stay silent and it's kinda awkward. So i just continue the conversation a bit by saying "sona ndesu ka?" Then my jp friend would at least say "so desu yo".

Indians do a surprisingly similar thing lol, we say 'hain' which is what you said with a nasal sound at the end
