Shinjis Mom after deciding to hop out of bed and joining the party

"God in heaven what kind of monster have we made this from?"

You took a mother, turned her into a giant cyborg, then had their children pilot them. No wonder they are monstrous, there is the instinct of parental protection still in there somewhere. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned? No, Hell hath no fury like a mother trying to protect her baby.

What I love from this scene is that it's explained in detail before that the actual body of the angel is what appears as the shadow, and the sphere IS the shadow of the object, basically. Or better, a projection of the angel in the first 3 spacial dimensions.
So, Eva 01 is literally coming out from the angel's SHADOW by ripping it apart, bruteforcing out of physics and common sense.

Throughout the series Asuka always wanted to be #1 pilot and I like that after witnessing such a scene, she actually felt afraid of her own Eva but then she just throws all that away and make it like nothing happened the next episode. She doesn't even question Shinji about the experience he went through and idk it could've made their ship sail later on as she tries her best to not let Shinji go through that again

Now that I think about it, Leliels sky shadow was probably a projection of what the pocket dimension looks like from the outside. Its almost making fun of the Lilins effort to try and save Shinji when he was right there in the sky and encaged. But it chose to mess with the wrong mother and was rightfully punished.

Anyways, a gruesome end for the shadow Angel. And the beginning of Unit 01's bloodthirsty streak of ripping Angels to shreds.

This is my favorite episode, Shinji finally comes out if his shell and shows some confidence and the world hammers him for it. He gets trapped in a pit of despair and it's rage that carries him out of it.

This ep marks the start of Evangelion as "not your usual robot anime".

If you can't stand seeing Eva 01 bathing in blood, and Shinji's mind crushing moments, you're not ready for what's about to happen in the next eps.

Man, eva-01 overcame existential concepts with literal brute force and rage. Let this be a lesson to all, god cannot hold you down if you are angry enough

Best scene. For the past year I’ve been learning how to walk again after a major leg injury.

The first element after surgery and recovery was learning to bend my leg again. Pain. Intense. Never thought I could feel that much pain.

I love this scene. Whilst some have compared it to a birth or an egg, I see it as Eva 1, and shinji’s will to live.
That indomitable will literally overcame the enemy angel.

Show lore. Their AT field defeated the others. Literally dug itself out. No help.

You can see the comparisons I felt to myself.

I understand Asuka's shocked reaction to Unit 1 going berserk as her realizing for the first time that piloting an Evangelion is definately *not* all fun and games.

I love this fight despite not liking Eva01’s roar, but there was one time when a friend of mine ounce said that seeing the Unit burst out of Leiliel, looked like she was being

Now I can’t unsee that.

The fact that NERV actually plan to drop all their N2 bombs just to deal with this angel just makes this scene so metal

I always felt a hint of sympathy for Leliel's death.
Kazuya Tsurumaki (Assistant Director for Evangelion.) told in an interview that part of Leliel's appearence in the series, was that they wanted a scenario where an Angel "took interest/curiousity" towards Humans. The "young Shinji" which the real Shinji is communicating with, was admitted to be Leliel trying to make contact with him.

Though the Angels are clearly hostile towards Humans, it's mentioned that a rare few Angels had: "Nothing in mind." Or just their own unknown goals, rather than to make contact with Adam or Lilith.
So even though Leliel sucks in everything it comes into contact with, (Hell, I think it safe to say all the buildings caught in it's shadow are well and proper ruined!) it never did physically harm Shinji, though it terrified him, which is understandable! But the new environment within Leliel became increasingly lethal over time, due to system failure.

So the more I think about it, it seems that Leliel "just" picked up Shinji in the only way it knew how to, in order to examinate him closely.
However, just like a naïve child carelessly picks up a fish from the sea to inspect it, Leliel may not have known.. Or cared.. That Shinji was being suffocated and smothered, once removed from his natural invironment.

The fact why is the ground shattered before Leliel got rip into 2 by Unit 01, simple because the ground is the real Leliel

This seems to be the most popular video relating to Leliel, so wanted to do a quick science lesson on what it was supposed to be: the Sea of Dirac.

Basically, Mr Dirac had the idea of a infinitely deep sea of negative energy Electron particles to represent the vacuum (as in: the underlying substrate of reality). However, if you put energy into one of these particles, it'd pop out as a real electron, _and_ you'd make a hole in that Sea, and that hole could "move" by shifting the neighboring particles into it (and thus, making a new space), which would move, act, and look like an electron-- but with a positive charge. What's more, if a normal electron were to fall into the hole, it'd sink into the Sea and we would see the release of all the energy that was used to make the hole as the 'psudo-electron-acting' hole and the real electron erased each other from our universe.

Basically, the particle we know as a Positron in all but name: Dirac accidentally predicted antimatter.

He was wrong, but the idea was good, and the Eva writers needed something that was conceptionally bottomless, but in our physical space would have little to no measurable existence. No idea how a shadow would work if he was right and you "shone it from underneath" or something.... Sinking a _sun_ into that sonovabitch doesn't really make sense for any models to calculate it out.

So this is that "Kirby" everyone's talking about.

The black sun imagery is so striking.(0:45). It really gives off an apocalyptic mood.

Asuka saying "mein gött" is definitely a great thing to put in the dub
