This in my opinion proves why Heidegger's entire project on Being and Time is based upon dubious if not false assumptions; it's predicated upon a trasparent nature of the self; some sort of existential ipseity or direct access to one's "own" existence, since Dasein is that which is always in any case "mine" - however there are accounts of people literally loosing/changing their own sense of identity due to trauma (be it psychological of physical). The most obvious example is depersonalization/derealization, but also think of consciousness on dissociative psychedelics, Cotard's delusion, honest confabulation due to frontal lobe damage... All of these things index to the fact that one's own perception of self is anything but persistent, transparent or easily accessible. Nietszche and Freud were quite clear on this; I much prefer Husserl to Heidegger since he modestly stops at consciousness with his inquiry and does not try to extend phenomenology to existence itself.

I’m a scientist and I only know very little of philosophy. But isn’t this more of a scientific question than a philosophical one? Definitely has implications for both.

Have you read the Quran? Everything science proved is in there, and most they haven’t discovered too. Humans only have a limited understanding of life. Take for example the soul we know nothing about it. But Allah has explained everything in His book.
