I’m a veteran, got prescribed it in 2013 for sleep. I took only .25 at night. Then I started taking more, .5… Now I take .75-1.25mg a day. Sometimes more given the situation and anxiety level. I always had anxiety but it was never that bad. I feel like it makes anxiety worse.

I am so scared of addiction (I heard withdrawal from benzo's can get really bad) that I stuck by the lowest dose and only on occasion. It does happen that I take two days in a row, and very rarely even three days in a row, but that is the limit. I absolutely hate the feeling of dependency, like when I used to smoke, it is such an unfree feeling when you always need to have a certain something or you will get all these symptoms of withdrawal and craving.
I've been a blobbering mess for up to months and months, after several mental breakdowns, but thank goodness I'm not addicted to tranquilizers.
And I also do not like to be dependent on the willingness of doctors to prescribe them to me. So whenever I ask for them they know I don't have a habit of taking them and they're less reluctant and give the okay. (IMO a good doctor should be reluctant with drugs like these)
Biggest warning: when addicted, don't ever quit cold turkey / without medical supervision.

I know this is only a short part of a longer video, but what's said here is not really correct. "Excessive sleep, slurred speech, problems with coordination and thinking" are not necessarily symptoms of Xanax addiction. They're rather symptoms of being under the influence of Xanax, it doesn't mean there's an addiction. Of course when you're addicted, you're usually under the influence most of the time, that's why you have the symptoms of being under the influence. But the real symptoms of addiction rather appear when you're not under the influence anymore, or when the effects of the drug wear off. It starts with cravings. Difficultly to sleep, you have anxiety or even panic attacks, tremors, muscle spasms, headaches, racing heart, hyperventilation, sweating, seizures, hallucinations, delirium or even death.

When you say it makes you sleepy... I had my first tablet today for my anxiety and shakes and it calmed me down and I fell asleep. My anxiety was keeping me from recovering from a chest infection properly and only plan to take when I get anxiety badly and I only have 10 tablets so I hope thats all I need. The does of each tab is 0.25. Hopefully I can take it if I get anxiety at work.

Man, i take 4mg of xanax xr and have been on it for 18 years. I want off it so bad but im all alone and all the doctors in my city want to take me off 1mg a month so itd be a 4 month process. Im prescribed it and have never abused it, but i think im benzo tolerant and have been going through withdrawal for awhile. Ive been a wreck. I should not know more about the dangers of this then my doctors. Im terrified and lost and i dont know who or where to turn to 😭 im 37, turning 38 in april and i feel like i cant remember anything or make decisions or think. Its killing me and nobody will help or tell me how to get off it properly becamy doctors are uneducated on it. I dont know how much longer i can keep doing this.
