I dont think the damage done at Manzikert was irreversible! The real irreversible damage was when the 4th crusade happened. At Manzkiert the Empire didnt suffer devastating losses, they had suffered way worse throughout the years. What made the battle of Manziker decisive wasnt the batle itself but the aftermath, Roman was released shortly after the battle and agreed to give the turks Armenia and that would be it, but after the battle a fight for the throne began, comanders were leaveing their posts in Anatolia to fight in the civil war thus leaving Anatolia unprotected and letting the Seljuks conquer it! And after the Battle the Komnen dynasty was able to reconquer half of Anatolia and if some things happend differently maybe they wouldve been able to conquer all of it! But after Alexios and John the emperors that came after him were quite shit, raising taxes to the roof forcing bulgarians and Vlachs to rebel and involving the crusaders into byzantine politcs!

I kinda would have Imagined sense Byzantium and France were sort of allies in this timeline that Byzantium would want control of Italy or at least want to have the city of Rome.

I'm a Bulgarian and for most of Bulgaria's history, our rival was the Byzantine Empire. At moments I wanna crush them, but at other moments i want them to have all of turkey and stuff. Idk, it just feels weird to not have your rival anymore.
