I will never forgive the public school system for not teaching us about the Eastern Roman Empire

Also the Byzantine Empire was never called Byzantine Empire. They were always just known as the Roman Empire. Byzantine Empire is a modern term used by historians to distinguish. Which imo is probably the reason for the fact everyone sees it as different.

As an Islamic school student, I learn about the Eastern Roman Empire often in Sirah class. This empire is so cool.

That's crazy, so while they were discovering America, Rome was still a thing, holy cow

I believe the arabs and turks attacked the Byzantine more than the Germanic tribes attacked Rome

Am I the only one who can't understand why so many people in the west simps for the Roman Empire?

Some of them say that it's because the Roman Empire laid the foundation for western civilization, but don't they realize most of what they consider as building blocks of western civilization like democracy, art and architecture, philosophy, law, etc were all Greek in origin not Roman?

It amazes me that we can’t figure out Greek fire. You would think a physics modeling computer program could be written, mixing chemicals to which the Greeks/romans had access, varying the proportions and ingredients, then modeling each result to see if it confirms to the reported nature of Greek Fire.

For an empire with lots of infighting, being able to keep it up for 1000 tears is a feat of his own

I personally love calling it "Byzantine" for one stupid reason: it is a beautiful name.

But I still remember it as the Roman Empire. Even if some people forgot, I wouldn't forget.

I wonder why Western Rome couldn't hold the Alps. They're one of the best natural barriers....

And so the path to India through the Eastern Roman Empire was closed to Westerners, who decided to go west to find India. Hence Columbus.

"Byzantine" is a more modern term for the Empire, to distinguish it from the Roman Empire proper (pre split) named because of the capital of Constantinople was originally called Byzantium, before and after Rome conquered it, changed to Constantinople either for or because of Emperor Constantine, the Byzantines actually called themselves Romans, and it was know in their time as the Roman empire, so, basically, the Roman empire was killed by the Ottomans...
