What a shame I didn't see this video before my surgery that I had 2 weeks ago. I was so worried. No one talked to me about all of this. That was very helpful.

Very well-explained. You have a respectful and non-condescending manner, while at the same time explaining the details. Much appreciated.

Quite frankly, its a miracle I can walk upstairs and down like homosapien rather than one of great apes that used to roam the meadows. Just being able to walk to a restaurant, go for a walk or wash the car🎉
Can't wait for the other hip to be done. Only had the surgery in March 23.

This is such a good video. So accurate. I had my left hip replaced 2 weeks ago today. I’m a 65 yr old female that walked in to surgery w a cane In allot of pain. 2 hours after surgery I was up with a walker and putting pressure on my surgical leg. I was shocked !!! I went home that same day. OuTPATIENT. I only took oxy pain relievers for three days after surgery. And then just Tylenol. I was afraid to not use the walker as I could fall and mess it up. Got the guts to try it on day 5 and haven’t used a walker or cane since. My post ops appt was great. Finally saw the scar when they removed the bandage. It’s only 4 inches long. Amazing what Drs can do and only leave a 4 inch scar. Mine was the anterior approach ( front of thigh). Highly recommend this type of surgery. Still have a small amount of swelling in the thigh, but went grocery shopping yesterday with no issues. No pain. Good luck to everyone out there considering a hip replacement. I know everyone is diffeeent but my experience was awesome and I am the first to admit I have a very low tolerance to pain.

10 days after surgery. I was not sure I was progressing as well as I should be and this information has helped. I seem to be right in track. Thanks for this. Ontario Canada.

I'm 52 and just had my hip replaced on August 22nd. It has been overwhelming. Truly feel like a new person, it is miraculous. Though I want to go for a walk I'm not sure how far I can go.
I know it feels better when I do walk, and they said it will help it to heal faster. Tomorrow I set out on a new adventure of walking.
I waited about 10 yrs to have the surgery and all I can say is don't wait and suffer unnecessarily

We have watched probably 100's of hip related Utube videos. Yours we believe is the best, most real and factual ones we have found. We live in spain and my wife has just undergone hip surgery and while we have no critiscm of the quality of the surgery, the after operation support is somewhat lacking, not helped of course by our less than perfect understanding of the spanish language.Thank you for your videos, a breath of realism when cmpared with the majority of the utube hip op videos, mostly showing young heathy females performing appropriate physio therapy exercises, with barely a mention of bruising, pain and swelling. Thankyou again..

God bless you Dr. Tomaszuski❣️❣️❣️ I am 9 days post total hip replacement surgery. No one is giving me any reassurance like you have in this video. The physical therapist seems timid about telling me if I am normal or not. The surgeon and his office are totally impossible to get ahold of. My husband keeps scolding me for doing things for myself like bending to get things in the fridge or reaching even though I have the counter and walker at my fingertips. Thank you for sharing your expertise on the pain medication as well. I feel so validated today. Thank you Thank you Thank you ❣️

Great informative video
I am coming up 5 weeks. And yes I thought a quicker recovery when you listen to people boasting about up and walking in a few days. This is teaching me to literally take everything in my stride, listen to my body and be kind to my body.
Thankyou sir this is great to help us all in our recovery

This is the BEST video I have seen. Thank you. Unfortunately, I am one of those healthy, active patient, who swims 4 days a week and did all the pre hip surgery exercises along with my normal yoga stretches. Thought I was ready for a quick recovery... Joke was on me. I am now on day 16 and just went for my post op visit. Since Day 4 I have been in excruciating pain. Not my hip, my leg swelled and started to bruise in the back and each day the swelling and bruising moved down my leg and now has settled in my foot and ankle. Can't even stand to walk as my arch is so swollen and bruised. Pain like I have never endured in my 72 years. I've been in contact with my surgeon since day 7 and at that time told me to stop all baby aspirin and ibuprofen. I take no meds, so I'm very sensitive to medication. I've done it all, elevate, iced, compression wraps (auto), PT... today I was told to stop all PT, and rest. Change to compression sock and elevate, but not at night in bed until my foot and ankle calm down. The opioids made me ill, dizzy, nauseous and shaky! Ridiculous... Now they changed my pain med to tramadol. I can assure you that I will NEVER say I wish I did this sooner. My hip was late stage severe hip arthritis so I had no choice. I put it off for 6 years with exercise. Best advice is to not wait as long as me. Today I was told by next week I will be walking around without any aids....we'll see.

It's exactly 2 weeks today since my hip replacement. It's gone really well. I really miss being able to sleep on my side 😔. On the plus side, I'm able to walk with just a crutch. I can't wait to be able to start taking long walks again in the woods and just living life. It took me a while to come to terms with my situation as I'm in my late 30's. In the end, it's about the quality of life I wanted. I'm glad accepted reality on time and took the plunge.

I had a posterior left total hip replacement just four days ago (31 Oct 2023). It happened very quickly (literally 10 days after the appointment to discuss whether I needed it), so I’m catching up on stuff that I wished I had known pre-surgery. The first few days post surgery were fairly rough- it literally felt like someone had sliced me open, folded my muscles back, sawed off and into my bones, and then stitched me back up. In my case, my pre-surgery pain wasn’t awful but it did limit my activity significantly. The post-surgery pain was higher than my pre-surgery pain though different pain. I’m 52 and am still not clear exactly what happened for my hip to deteriorate so rapidly (anxiously awaiting the operative biopsy results). In any case, my single biggest tip is to ICE the hip joint as much as possible. The first afternoon home from the hospital (while I still had hospital pain meds and was a bit loopy from the anesthesia) I didn’t ice vigilantly and I really felt it the next day. I resolved to do better and have been icing as continuously as possible since then which has really helped. I have very minimal swelling and the pain has subsided significantly. My leg DOES feel substantially longer (like I’m walking around on a stilt) which I realize is from fixing the significant cartilage loss that had occurred, but it’s sure taking some getting used to! Thankfully I have some chiropractor visits scheduled in the next few weeks to ensure I’m not throwing my back out of alignment trying to adjust. Otherwise, I’m just really glad I’m on THIS side of the surgery. My #1 tip (5 days post-surgery) is to ice your joint, and try to move around when it hurts. I felt that when I got up and moved around it helped ease the pain- it is counter-intuitive but it works. Good luck to you all!!

Had my surgery 4/2. It was a shock. I felt depressed as I live alone. It has taken time but I am getting used to my recovering life.

This relieved my anxiety a lot. I’ve been terrified of dislocating my hip and have been babying it probably too much. We were made to repeat the 3 precautions, no twisting, no reaching down and no breaking the 90degree angle. Also I was afraid I wasn’t doing as well as most. Im no super healer but I’m definitely doing as well as the average if not better. Thank you so much.
