I drive a 2022 GLS450. #1) How does the 48v battery get charged?, #2) Does the 48v battery operate any other vehicle functions other than the start-up assist (from a stop when the engine cuts off) ) and the mild acceleration boost? #3) Where is the 48v battery located in the vehicle and does it require regular replacement like a 12v starter battery? #4) Is the 48v battery starting the engine or does the 12v battery perform that initial task? #5) Lastly, how can I tell the percentage charge on the 48v battery and the 12v battery? (Similar to a cell phone)? what is your recommended "best way" to keep the GLS450 batteries fully charged for an occasional use vehicle? channel and excellent videos and narrative comments and instruction.

Thanks for the explanation. For plug-in hybrid cars - the use case shown in the video with entering motorway: engine is not running and suddenly it is revved at 4k RPMs and higher - oil is cold, engine is cold, isn't this going to impact engine longenvity?

Hi Nick, I will buy full electric ⚡️ car rather than plug in hybrid. But beautiful vlog like always. Thanks 🙏

Hi, my wife has a gla 250e. Mostly runs full electric but does on occasion run on petrol. If you watch the energy direction on centre screen the petrol engine does and has put energy back into the battery while running at motorway speeds

Hi Nick, nice video.
You may also add the option of charging while droving for the plug in. Specially when it is a slope down 😉

Hi Nick. Love your videos. Learned a lot about our Mercedes. Is it possible to do a special on the C Class Convertible? I know it has an Airscarf and probably other features not normally in a sedan. Keep up the great videos.

This is brilliant, currently looking at 2021 glc couple . Is the remote start available on all models or just plug in hybrid

Hi Nick, great video, thank you for clarifying the idea. I am actually looking around as I would like to purchase Mercedes e-class mild hybrid, but it looks like is nowhere to find. Can you please advise where I should look to find one? Any website, any dealer....anything that helps me to find this car to buy. thanks in advance😀

The big issue is the kind of journeys you do. I am looking at purchasing two family cars at the moment, and the issue I can foresee is that whilst a plug-in is great for short distances, daily commute, etc., it appears really to suffer (due to redundant weight) on the longer journeys, which I'm likely to be doing once a week. I think the solution is going to be one all-electric, and one mild hybrid. The plug-in seems to fall between two stools. Interested in others' thoughts.

So much more complex technology, so much more that can go wrong, and so much more expensive to maintain, service or fix faults.

Thanks Nick, so the mild hybrid option does not have a battery taking up boot space?

Hi nick, first you say "plug in hybrid don't self recharge" (4.05), but then yo said "assoon as you go to break you;'ll see that it will start putting charge back in the battery" (4.28).

i'm little confusing ??

Hey Nick - I'm thinking of going hybrid of some sort and your video explained it very well! The plug in hybrid does seem to be the best for bridging the gap.
Question: How long should a C class battery generally last and how much is it to purchase a new one? And I guess the car can run fine if there is no juice in the battery.
Cheers!

So with a PHEV....if you are driving and run out of charge on your batteries, the gas engine takes over. While the gas engine is running (to get you the rest of the way on your journey), does the battery get a charge while you are burning fuel?

People plugin to get 2% consumption on 100km
I get 2.8% on full hybrid that does not plugin
If you wanna call the full hibrid a mild is your choise but there are more types:
Micro hibrid - 3hp
Mild hibrid - 15hp 0.2kwh battery
Full hibrid - 40hp 1kwh battery
Plugin hibrid - 80hp 10kwh battery
Range extended hibrid - 150hp 40kwh battery

I would worry with plug-in hybrid, you'd need to do enough regular distance mileage to keep the petrol/diesel engine in good shape? So how often in practice would you need to do a Poole to London type distance? If I do a daily commute that is feasible on electric, and a longer drive a couple of times a month, is that enough or would mild hybrid or pure EV suit that profile better?
