And before somebody says it: this is not the same as squatting higher or using an arch. When you lift sumo instead of conventional, you trade hip extension ROM for hip abduction ROM. The total joint angle ROM is zero sum even though the bar moves less distance. Using an arch, or squatting high has you artificially limit the range of motion of your joints by not moving them as far.

Both sides of the argument have kernels of truth to them.

If you’re an advantaged sumo puller, you absolutely pull less conventional. If you’re a big arch bencher, you absolutely Bench less flat backed.

You squat less high bar than low bar etc.

Him tryna flex with that 315 deadlift was strange tho lol

I've come to the realization that most conflicts in a man come from our inability to take control of our egos.

In reality, who cares about who is or isn't strong or how much? Just do what you enjoy in life and let others do the same.

If I had to judge which strength profession is the strongest I would choose strongman over powerlifters. Strongman are stronger in more movements than powerlifters. Powerlifters are very efficient in 3 movements while strongman train in several movements for strength using non standard weightlifting equipment also. ROM does matter when lifting if it didn’t lifters wouldn’t be trying to figure out ways to shorten bar path in every lift.

I don't care what you call it, if someone can pull 700lbs off the floor, it doesn't matter how they do it. That's strong

I disagree with what he is saying, power lifters are strong but they use what ever advantage they can to lift more.

I've observed that most of the time (maybe not all of the time but most) the people that downplay the strength of others are usually unable to lift impressive amounts of weight. Interesting.

If he's so right about it just betting technique and that it's not about strength - then he should just go pull 600 off of the floor and show us

If it suits your frame, mobility, and specific strengths, lifting sumo will allow you to lift more than if you were to deadlift conventional. That said, you still have to be able to lift the weight.

"that's not strength, that's what we call a mechanical advantage" u mean strength

How often and what mobility/stretches do you incorporate to prevent injuries? My knees are suffering because my glutes and hamstrings are so tight

He’s only deadlifting 315 for five and has the audacity to call powerlifters out

He had a point. Powerlifting comunity is quite biased. When somebody tells them: Maybe you should not arch like a bridge. They are: Wtf man! That is the rule! It's ok! You know shit. Bla bla
They seem to absorbed sometimes

Yeah I wouldn't brag to the powerlifting community about a 315x5 deadlift.

But range of motion does partly matter, by decreasing the rom u decrease the amount of force needed to be apply continuously. U may be able to punch hard but u can’t throw something heavy. It’s like going for reps vs doing only one rep. One puts a lot less stress on the muscle. And yes people do fail at lock out and fail off the floor. Both happen it depends on what ur muscles are suited to do. On average someone can lift more with a decreased RoM because there is less stress on the muscles.
