Does anyone else feel like YouTube is changing?

YouTube has been feeling dull lately. But signs of change are on the horizon.

You may have heard of the YouTube new wave. The group of creators on a mission to change the so-called “Beastification of YouTube” in exchange for more cinematic and story-based, emotive videos that, on paper, shouldn't do well for the algorithm... In the past few years, it feels the movement has been reaching a tipping point. #youtubenewwave

I think the main reason this is happening is that more and more people (creators and consumers alike) are getting fed up with the content on Instagram & TikTok. People are longing for things that actually have meaning, that will still be relevant 48hours after posting and that are slower paced. And, after all those years, Youtube is still the best (and kind of the only) place, where content like this is actually appreciated.

While the YT algorithm definitely has issues, it has also definitely done its job correctly in this case by promoting this EXCELLENT video, and making it your most watched video so far. The message is excellent as well, and I hope YouTube takes it to heart and gets back to being a platform that prioritizes creators telling real stories, not corporations selling products.

I've been watching the new wave of YouTubers and I find their approach very refreshing. Everything seems to be so Mr. Beast focused with larger than life productions lately it's nice to watch videos that are more subtle with space to breathe.

This is what making art is about. You do it because you want to, because you have to not because of some algorithm or popularity contest.

I agree with this assessment that creators are throwing off the shackles of the advice to “niche down.”

I do wonder if the algorithm will follow the trend.

love that you're bringing this up. Natalie, Colt and Kariza are some of my favourite creators on the platform right now, just love the fresh way they create videos. Hoping to lean into the more fun and artistic side of youtube for my future content in 2024 as well :)

This is a great point.
Not only was the platform oversaturated with silly videos, but there are such advancements in camera technology that have empowered creators to capture and share their creativity in stunning detail, fostering a vibrant online community of talented individuals. I'm excited to be here.

i feel the same way. we don't create our content FOR youtube to grow so getting the recognition we deserve is harder, but it warms my heart to know there are more people around the world that thinks and feels like i do. we may all find our people. thank you for the reminder

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my YouTube channel 9 months ago about self development. Now I have 1, 726 subs and > 1k hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

These are also my favorite youtubers! I actually am starting my channel in a few months because I found LifeofRiza so refreshing and inspiring, and I'm going to document my family's move to Scotland. Wish us luck! New subscriber here :)

This video popped up on my recommended feed and I totally agree. Authenticity is the root of human connection so it makes sense that after all this "Mr beast" style of fast paced flashy edits are now becoming disingenuous. People miss when they could watch videos on this platform and get the feeling like they are hanging out with a friend. The platform is called YouTube for a reason

Finally someone talking about it ! Nowadays content doesn’t seem real anymore.. you see the same thing everywhere! Also it’s hard to tell whether they’re Trynna help you or just sell you their products.. I’ve created my YouTube channel but I haven’t uploaded anything yet 😅still thinking what kinda of content would actually add value to ppl’s lifes, wish me luck hehe

This video was so well made! Kind of meta because you used those fun, cinematic elements while talking about the same vlogging style XD
