4 Phases of Healing a Highly Sensitive Nervous System

➡️ Get access to the FREE Anxiety Recovery Guide:

One of the biggest challenges in healing a sensitive nervous system is breaking the cycle of reaction. When symptoms appear, it’s easy to jump into what I like to call the “five Fs”: fighting, fixing, fearing, focusing, and getting frustrated.

Each of these responses only amplifies the discomfort, trapping you in constant symptom management.

For a long time, I thought that if I just fought hard enough or found the right fix, I’d finally be free. But trying to control every sensation kept me stuck—it actually fed the cycle instead of breaking it.

It became clear that I needed to approach my symptoms differently. That’s when the real shift happened. I learned to change my mindset to one of acceptance without expectation, which helped my nervous system naturally desensitize over time.

In this episode, I’ll explain the four phases of healing and how to navigate each of them, from the reactive stage to a place where life becomes bigger than any symptom.

Tune in to learn how to move past the five Fs and make real progress in your recovery journey.

Key Takeaways:

Intro (00:00)
Phase #1: Trying to fix symptoms through the five Fs (01:34)
Phase #2: Allowing symptoms to exist without resistance (03:16)
Phase #3: Avoiding expectation in acceptance (04:32)
Phase #4: Prioritizing life over recovery (06:26)
Embracing setbacks as a natural part of the journey (07:36)

Just wanted to give you a big Thankyou. I lost my family, my job and myself. I found one of your videos and in 1 month I am already in stage 4 ( just). Can’t Thankyou enough. I know it sounds lame and I didn’t join the program. But, you really broke it down for me the way my brain needed to process it. Ps I got my family back ❤

no progress is ever linear. i keep telling myself that. even in a creative learning process with things like art or music, you will get stumped sometimes. you will get creative block. anxiety and depression are the same. you may have better and worse days and it may feel like absolute hell, but you'll notice week by week, month by month, each will be better than the last. we've got this guys !!! i promise ♡ never stop fighting for your well-being

Almost a year now that I had a panic attack in the middle of the night that triggered this heightened sense of nervousness. I can deal with most of it but I get this intense sensation down the left and right side of my body it will shift from day to day. For months I would hyperfocus on it and it would literally increase to a 10 which would than lead to racing heart, sweating, excessive worry. I began to teach myself that I didn’t need to fear it, that it was ok just to let it be. For the last 2 months it’s began to get better, the symptoms come and go but I just let it be, without even knowing it it just fades away, if I tend to think about it it will come back lol it’s just a vicious mind game we are playing with ourselves. Feel it, change your response, continue your day and I promise you it will subside.

I’m on phase three. I’ve had brain fog for 8 months. But I don’t have the same mental exhaustion, I don’t have brain burn. I have head pressure occasionally, I have memory issues, and I can’t focus well. But I am not ruminating anymore. I see some positives. Today I was actually using acceptance incorrectly like you covered. And now I am working on focusing on life and enjoying the little things and when I notice my symptoms I am saying it’s a good thing because it caused me to change my negative thinking and take a look at myself and see how unhealthy I was being. It is saving me from wasting anymore life.

Thanks Shaan, the symptoms, the thought loops, and the emotions you speak of are so relatable it’s easy to tell that you’ve experienced this yourself and have found your own way to overcome it, thank you for sharing that with all of us.

Thank you Shaan, once again proved your videos are worthwhile... Today I got other two main success/recovery/ healing key through this video...

First is : life is important than symptoms (so prioritize your life's moments, situation and events wherever you are just be there and try to enjoy life )

Second is : returned symptoms or setbacks are the opportunities to respond back with healing process...

Yay! 🥰
Thank you very much Shaan.💐🙏🏻☺️

I am 65. Looking back, my first anxiety episode that I remember was at the age of around 4. Yes, 4. And since then I have suffered.
Of course over the years I had tried everything including therapy, yog, breathing, meditation, and medication.
NOTHING helped.
Just recently I found out about healing your Vegus nerve by resetting it. And believe me please within a week I started feeling better for the first time in my life.
So if you are reading this and are finding yourself in the same situation please watch some videos on how to reset Vegas nerve and then all these other techniques like breathing and meditation will start to help you.

Thanks Shaan! this was another eye opener for me 🙈 just realized that I have been stuck in phase 3 USING acceptance without realizing that.
Part of me is scared though that if I just let the symptoms come up and fully live my life I will go back to burnout. My anxiety 😬

Hey Shaan thanks again 🙏 this is very helpful. I wish there was a thank you button on the videos so that those who couldn't afford the mentorship program could at least contribute in return for what you gave.
