People may make fun of the irony in Vader's line, but to be fair, he could have been fully aware of this irony as well. Vader, as a character, was still misguided and hadn't redeemed himself yet. In his mind, at this time, he may have simply considered his past love to be a weakness - another remnant of Anakin Skywalker that needed to be purged. So of course he would, as a sith, try to give this advice. He may have even considered it real advice, like "hey man, I've been there, love is pointless".
