Is Learning To Code Worth It 2024: Why Am I Still Talking About This

Is Learning To Code Worth It 2024. As a self taught developer I have been asking this question every year.

There is a misconception that AI will replace developers and eliminate jobs, but this is not true. While the market is competitive, there are still plenty of job opportunities for developers.

It is important to focus on developing problem-solving skills and learning from experienced developers rather than getting caught up in unfounded fears.

Key Takeaways:
- Understanding the demand for developers across industries, not just in big tech
- The significance of adaptability and continuous learning in tech
- How to leverage AI as a tool rather than viewing it as a threat

Hell yeah! Honestly, I was one of those guys who started learning to code during the pandemic and, as I was completing the finishing touches on my portfolio project, got spooked by the craziness of the job market and the AI hype and stopped for a bit.

I started looking at other, more 'pragmatic' degrees or trades I could go back to school for (particularly in engineering and aircraft maintenance), and started to realize that almost every field is difficult to get a job in. If I wanted to be an electrical or mechanical engineer, I needed to have impressive internships and networks to stand out. If I wanted to be an aircraft mechanic, I needed to be willing to accept low-paying jobs at first anywhere in the country for years, before major airlines would hire me.

It seems as if every field that could pay you a decent amount of money is hard to break into, and if that's the case, you may as well go for the thing you're passionate about, because otherwise you're not going to stand out enough to get hired. There's nothing else that I enjoy more than coding, so I'm just going to ride this pony down to hell.

Keep up the good work man, thanks for encouraging videos like this! It's easy to psyche yourself out with all the negativity.

So so true, thank you for this video very good points 👍
Its crazy everyone talking about AI replacing DEVs,
well what about all the other fields that are lightly to be replaced way before AI reaches that level...
no one seems to even mention that...
Software Engineers are the highest expense - that's why we keep hearing that all the time

How many AI web developers are there actually, out there in the real world? Same way how many ACTUALY AI nurses, plumbers, fast-food workers are there that are robots that you know of? Is anyone seeing companies ACTUALLY using AI to perform worker duties ANYWHERE (outside of social media)? Its a huge hype train but ChatGPT has been around for 3 years or so and I am not aware of a single real world application where a model was built that independently run the responsibilities of a Junior or Senior developer in any actual company day-in and day-out.

Long time no see, or maybe I was busy haha. I don't think you remember me, but I used to be in your group and hang around in your live stream with username, "learn in public'".

I would love to hear your thoughts on whether you should specialize or go full stack? Also, what is being a t-shape developer? I hear some make comments about this, but most give this general answer which isn't clear. Would love to hear your take on this.

One of the main reasons that the jobs aside from software developmer etc will not get automated is that these careers have huge lobbying and regulating groups that fight for their rights as workers. They have school requirements and degrees and expected competencies then you need licenses (electricians, nurses, doctors, mechanical engineers, plumbers etc)...for devs, we're not there.

As soon as I heard you talk about H-E-B I went to their website hoping to find something to apply to, but as almost everywhere it's only Senior level, and the only 4 openings that aren't Senior level still seem mid-level, with at least 2+ years of experience, one even requires experience leading teams of developers :/

Approximately O(n^2⋅d) would be the answer. Can gpt contain the full context of a big project? No. Chatgpt struggles already at 100-200 lines of code. I haven't tried gpt4 turbo 128k, but I cannot see it being massively better. Increasing the token limit to meaningful levels would just be too difficult with the computational cost.

If you're wondering where people get the idea that AI will displace developers and everyone else, then I'll tell you what. Firstly, it is stupid and reckless to think that with the emergence of new technologies, new professions also appear, as has been the case for centuries until now. This is partly true, now instead of 1000 developers you will need 1 who will communicate with ai by voice, and he, in turn, will write code very, very well. But then this 1 can be replaced with any other, since there will be nothing valuable in it; anyone on the street can do this. If you are sure that the theory of the golden billion is just a theory, then you will only be able to believe what is happening when it has already happened. Robots and artificial intelligence are being implemented everywhere and very, very quickly. We have already stepped into a new era, but not everyone understands it. In the future, people will serve robots, then the robots themselves will serve each other. Read up on what a quantum computer is, and then imagine that ai is 1000 times smarter than gpt-4 and will use this power. In America, pilot projects are already underway where AI makes court decisions together with judges, then judges will not be needed. And so it will be with everyone. And don’t forget that the development of chips implanted into the brain is in full swing, but that’s another story, but don’t think that if you can control a computer with your thoughts, that it won’t be able to control yours. Over time, we will cease to distinguish between them. Wars, epidemics and natural disasters will take away as many people as “they” need, the rest will live in virtual reality, which will be the same as the real one. Any opponent of dystopia is an opponent until he crawls out of his shell and thoroughly studies this issue. Denying this is only ignorance and fear.

where do we get this idea? Nvidia CEO said it! A guy, who gets bonus profits for successfully hyping up his stocks and making ppl believe, that they should use Nvidia products! I mean, could we hope to get someone more honest and non-biased as him? I don`t think so!
So yeah, quit your job and start being homeless today!
