Man, what Chris says about making coding a hobby is spot on! I've been trying to learn to code for 7 years and it never stuck, then I started building coding projects based around video games and since I love gaming I've been hella consistent with it everything started to stick. So I've learned more code in the past 8 months than I ever did in the last 7 years because I centered it around my hobby. I was even able to step in at my actual job and help the company out with a website problem recently

Not building things and just following tutorials is why I restarted. Don't make that mistake. I realized I couldn't make a todo app on my own and once I realized that I got out of tutorial hell and now reviewing everything I thought I knew and really getting a solid foundation.

ive had exact same thoughts, at this point its who can endure the most and not quit lol. eventually the job market will improve and there will be less people to hire due to all the ai fears and job market fears, etc and u will become one of the few best options for entry or junior level. if u wanna quit then quit, but know that in a year or few years later when tech booms again u will wonder why u gave up, wondering why u keep hopping onto the next train and never getting to the end. If u just endured u would have a job in tech by now. Dont live with regret, work hard and eventually the opportunities will come, and when that opportunity comes will u be ready?

Why do i know this? Because I've given up on things too many times when things got a bit hard, 100% regret percentage. Never again, idc if this takes longer than I hope if i have to eat shit for a while so be it, I just know im never giving up again.

I was planning to learn Web development as a side hustle initially, but the last point is spot on. Thank you Chris, I'll work towards seeing the beauty of the industry rather than just a means of livelihood.

Thank you for saying it's very hard for junior developers right now. Hopefully things get better!

Chris I been watching your videos for years and you inspired me to pursue this route. It’s been 7 months since I completed a bootcamp and prior to that I was self teaching. I’ve been applying and not a single interview yet, 200+ applications. I don’t have a college degree so I believe my resume is getting thrown out by hr due to that reason, I have a portfolio, still working on side projects, and I got my resume looked over couple times.

great video Chris! I thought it was interesting to me that you mentioned that we should treat coding as a hobby, that it's more than just lines and lines of code, but a skill that enhances critical thinking and problem solving. It's been a struggle to me lately when learning to code and doing job searching at the same time, while also working. But I do also believe that there's still opportunity out there for people like myself that want to be a developer, I still get notifications on my LinkedIn everyday!

For all this time that I've dedicated to take time and learn to code, I still haven't given up on myself despite the struggle and the challenge of learning to code while job searching and working all at the same time, I dived into this some years ago and I keep reminding myself to push forward. Surely it will be challenging, and there will be a lot of struggle involved, but it can still be done.

I’ve been very poor all my life as well. I’m currently learning full stack development and my birthday is in a couple days on the 12th, and I’m going to be 26. I just came by your videos now and I’m trying to get into the tech world full throttle, and be able to land that high paying job. Though I feel like I’m dreaming so much bigger than landing only that job, in the future I want to start my own company. I feel like the things I listened to in this video is very enlightening and I’m going to keep watching more of your videos. In my learning process I’m trying to learn full stack from the most promising courses I can get my hands on. I am falling in love with coding more and more every day and the more I learn, the more creative I start thinking on what I could do to put my new skills to the test. Soon I will start on my own projects and I was just thinking on how I could be more unique than others out there and then I found this video and you’re talking about how most portfolio’s are the same due to the over saturation of tutorials online. I completely get that and I think what people are missing is the actual point of those tutorials. It’s to learn and make your own projects with that knowledge, and not to just copy. I usually don’t comment but I really enjoyed this video, so thanks. 🫡 back to learning! Lol

Been trying to get a job for over a year now. I dont even see any, yes...ANY junior developer jobs. They are literally virtually all gone. The one time you're lucky to find even one, dont call you back.

There's only so much a person can continue to hold on. It's hopeless. I think I'm ready to give up. Idc if that makes me a quitter. Better than spending another 12 months learning non-stop to not get even an interview.

And no, its not my resume because I tested it by faking some experience. Holy shit the difference is night and day. I get calls nonstop but then i obviously bomb the interviews because they can tell im not qualified for mid level roles.

So there you have it. Its absolutely hopeless as a beginner to break in
