When you’re already doing all these things but it’s still barely enough 😅 I will say though I don’t think azure or thrive market are cheaper in my opinion. Thrive market is honestly mostly unnecessary items and most of what you can buy there you can make at home or they are “luxury” items at this point. Buying a whole animal is pretty expensive per pound too because you’re paying for higher quality cuts too over just ground beef or pork. I feel like $10 a pound is pretty standard which is a lot more than even pasture raised ground beef per pound.

One suggestion on the organ meats, buy grass fed and finished beef liver, chop it into small pieces and freeze. Each morning toss one back with some water for the vitamins. Also mix some organ meats in with hamburgers, meatloaf etc. to hide the taste but get the nutritional benefits.

I am so passionate about all of these things! I make our own sourdough bread, granola and many other things. We have laying hens and we do our own meat birds with my husband's family. We grow our own garden to supply our summer needs and we generally end up with some frozen vegetables and pasta sauce and tomato soup. I am a huge fan of seasonal shopping and farmers markets because it truly is giving you the best of each product. And I am a frugal shopper so I love hearing your suggestions for sales and bulk shopping! Thanks for sharing, I feel like so many people don't know these basic yet foundational tips for eating well and saving money

Best Beef Liver Jerky recipe!! Marinade 2 or more livers in BBQ sauce, or another marinade you love (or simply lemon juice, olive oil, salt pepper and herb seasoning)- then slice into thin strips (about 1/2 inch), place on parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees F for 30 min, remove from oven and flip pieces over. Reduce heat to 175 and bake another 90 min. Store in freezer bag and enjoy a piece daily! Easy way to get the nutrients, it tastes great, kids can enjoy it and it lasts about a month in the freezer.

I know everyone always recommends farmers markets, but I have never experienced the amazingness everyone touts. Each one I have been to has always been super expensive and in many cases the produce looks way worse than what I can get otherwise and is nothing special. This has been both in the Midwest and California but admittedly I am guessing people in a small town may have better luck because closer to the farms.

We have a local discount store. I have found very healthy foods at about 75 to 90 % cheaper than I could buy at Azure or at the supermarket. I stop on a weekly basis so it's different each week. Farmers markets are a blessing too, you can take home and chop and freeze whatever you don't grow.

try beef tongue! Sounds awful, but it is soooo delicious! Just slow cook for 3-4 hours with onions, carrots and bay leaf, kids will love it too :)

Great tips! I buy organs, they are mixed with ground beef. Then I make meatloaf out of that blend combined with more normal ground beef. You don't really p taste it I think, maybe it tastes even better.

I am new to your channel and I love it! Could you make a video of everything you make from scratch at home, your schedule for making these things that works for you and how you exactly do it? Or if you already have something like this link it here? Thanks! I am interested in making some things at home, but honestly it’s overwhelming with having 3 kids 3 and under.

I love these tips! I wish I had an Azure pick up location near me. I hunt, fish and forage in addition to raising chickens and gardening. I want to get into foraging mushrooms, but it's a little intimidating, lol. We used to raise beef critters and pigs, and had milking goats. When my youngest son was in the NICU for three months we had to drastically downsize....the hospital was nearly two hours away and it was just all too much at the time. The way the world (and just the food industry in general) is going, I'm thinking maybe I should get back into it all lol. God bless you and yours.

I grew up eating organ meat, it's just normal to us as portuguese people 😅. Anything from liver to trip to chicken giblets. You just have to add alot of flavour to organ meat and cook it very well. It's delicious just garder to find trustable sources for organ meat these days

Great tips!
If it’s important to source quality ingredients at a great value, Azure is the place to buy your bulk goods. Thrive market is beneficial for speciality items that you don’t need in bulk and I always shop the sales to take advantage of the percentages off when buying multiple items. We buy a whole cow and hog, much more economical than buying meat from the store and you get all the cuts for the same price.
Support your local farmers and establish those relationships. 😊

💯 agree, we like to buy meat shares for pork and beef and get as much of our poultry from a co-op of local farmers. We get a CSA each summer for produce but have to grocery stores or Wal-Mart during the winter. My tip for getting things from the sttore is I use the pick-up or to go features that allow me to stick to my list and not impulse shop.

It makes me super sad but thrive market is not as good of deals as it used to be. Honestly I can get things cheaper at my high end grocery store than I can at thrive. I used to LOVE thrive (started using them in 2015), but I do not find the benefit like I used to.
