About This Channel:
My name is Nevern and I am a clinical psychologist who is passionate about teaching people how to become their own therapist, and that is exactly what this channel is about. There is a time and place to see a psychologist, but I believe that people have the capacity within themselves to solve many of life's challenges all on their own, with the right guidance. If you would like to empower yourself to take control of your own mental health through the secrets of psychotherapy, then consider subscribing.

CBT has a clear aim to modify and adapt behaviour, analysis promotes understanding and insight and change is almost a secondary consequence.

I am CBT therapist and I still work with patterns and childhood as that is very natural and where core beliefs etc are being formed. . I do not see the point he makes here as being "this one vs the other" -This is how a good CBT therapist (or ANY licensed therapist) should work. Often people simplify CBT where it actually is intended to work on a deep level. Anyways :)

The CBT model was built by a psychoanalyst named Aaron Beck in the '50s. Beck noticed that depressive patients shared common thoughts about their self, the others, and the world. His hypothesis was that if these thoughts change then their depressive emotions will reduce and confirmed it after testing. The main difference from psychoanalysis is that CBT relies on evidence based techniques/intervensions including exposure. Also it follows a client centered educational approach informing the client about how the therapy works through a collaboration between the therapist and the client as equals.
