Last year, Tennessee lawmakers passed a statute they thought might solve their physician shortage problems, as most of the state's counties are classified as medically underserved.

I am really surprised that this was going to work with out extensive conversations with the American Medical Association. They slow walked the Missouri Assistant Physicians law and they worked hard to limit the effectiveness of other similar measures. The only way to use these workers is to negotiate directly with the AMA/ACGME/AAMC to make a system they are comfortable with.
