Reviving that V8 - great work..
Sorry for the young man who gave it up... but it is in good hands now.

That other shop didn't do a very good job diagnosing the issue. I replaced the pump on my daughter's 06 4cyl Tacoma. The motor stopped running at start-up. The AIS only runs for a short period of time injecting extra air into the exhaust manifold. The 12 volt battery test works fine, the motor either turns or doesn't. For that truck, the valves were probably the only issue.
Thanks for the video. 😊

Great job and she really is purring…sounds like my 5.7L V-8 in my 2014 Tundra!!!

My tundra went into limp mode because of a blown fuse. This fuse was used for about 7-10 different systems (ABS module, AC controls, etc.)
First mechanic quoted 3k because he thought it was the ABS module (diagnosed in a couple hours, did not approve repair)
Second mechanic took 3 days to diagnose and correctly identified it as the steering wheel angle sensor!

Once you get it running again, you really need to de-ghettoize it. Previous owners clearly spent their money on rims and other garbage instead of maintenance.

I can't wait to see this truck returned to it's stock configuration. Nice truck once you get rid of the kid stuff. I'm old enough to remember when almost all trucks were 2wd.

Thanks Peter for the detailed analysis on the secondary air injection pump system. A very common issue with the 5.7 iForce.

This video will serve as a great reference in educating people about this common issue.

2019 limited, and I had a mouse eat through a cable going to rear wheel speed sensor. The next day it started up and ran ok, but the dash looked like a Christmas tree, every light was flashing (including 4wd, I wasn't sure if it was in 2wd or 4wd) and message saying take to dealer. I was scared to try and drive to work or anywhere else, the dash made it look like the main controller had failed or something major, so i took the day off and drove to dealer (also still under warr). 5 hours and $600 (new sensor) later it was fixed. Next time I'm going to store and buying scan tool, I bet I could have fixed that cable going to sensor, if not then ordered a new sensor and replaced it myself. The dash made it look like the end of the world had arrived, it was just a wheel speed sensor, it could have given a little more specific message.

I had this AIP issue on my 2012 Tundra when it was brand new - less than 3000 miles. Dealer replaced AIP pumps, but it took 6 weeks to get parts.
I understand there is a block off kit you can install if you're not in CA.

My 07 crewmax had chronic limp mode due to this...., had it already fixed once in the wanted a massive amount to fix, ...i was about to just trash the truck, ...give up, ...the dealership said nothing else I can I came across this bypass kit designed for the easy to years now not a single problem or lites comming on, ..truck runs great now., ..if it fails ill just buy a new bypass kit again.

You can go to my old neighborhood in Oakland and there will be plenty of people that will want the stereo system, nasty rims(with most likely cheap tires), and those hideous tail light plastic dress up things. Oh and the gas cap too!!

That is part of the emissions system. Toyota will give you a 10 year or 150, 000 miles warranty on that system. If it fails go to the dealer and ask them about the warranty on that system. Other wise it’s around $2, 000 or more at the dealer to replace. But remember the dealer will charge you whatever they want.
