Yes its fair, as a cook who stayed back in the hot kitchen for 12 hours making 10$ an hour, i watched bimbo waitresses come in late, do their job poorly, work 6 hours and make HUNDREDS in tips. More than any other position in the restaurant for the time worked. High end restaurant waitresses make crazy money. For reference the place i worked at had 20$ Salads and 30$ shots of aged tequilla, peoples bill would be like $300 total and theyd tip like 20%. Meanwhile, waitresses would be letting food die under the heat lamps, blame the kitchen to the customers when they complained, then after the kitchen remakes whatevers order they send back, the waitress gets the praise when she finally gets the food out to them while its hot. If your food is EVER cold, its 99.9% chance its the waitresses fault just so yall know.

What that manager did is illegal. If someone gives you a tip. Buy law, it is your money. and it is illegal for management to force you to split it or take any of it.

Ok... unpopular opinion... but why aren't waiters splitting tips 50/50 with kitchen staff? If I am leaving tip it means both the service AND the food were excelent. Why is chef getting screwed out of tips?

If all tips were always split for fairness fine the tippers should have given them the money outside of their work...
