This is a step-by-step instructional video on how to frame a basic window rough opening in a wall. I will be demonstrating and talking about how to do layout on wall plates and also assemble the jacks, cripples, Sill, Header, and king studs. Also, learn about rough opening “RO.” If you are new to construction or remodeling something at your own house, learning how to do this from a pro builder should speed you up and give you the confidence to do it right!

i learned how to build houses at Los Angeles Trade Tech. This is how we were taught. Also Larry Haun the Zen Master of residential construction came and gave us some secrets to the trade. These guys in this video are spot on. It should be mandatory in order to graduate with a high school diploma to acquire basic knowledge on building houses and auto repair....MANDATORY!!!

I'm teaching an NCCER Carpentry 1 class using your videos to break down framing for high school students. Thanks for making it entertaining and breaking it down for my kids.

Thank you for explaining the process in detail. You explained your game plan, then showing us the boards you're talking about using the arrows to point to the boards you're calling them. It helps me to keep up with the process. I have learned a lot.

This HAS TO BE the BEST tutorial I've watched in the construction business. Definition of terms, visual demonstrations as well as discussion of why's and wherefor's is clear enough for anyone to understand. I'm an old lady rebuilding her own kitchen, with some carpentry experience but always refreshing my memory on structural requirements so I'm subscribing and will probably binge watch the rest of your videos just for fun :) Thanks guys!

Again, , , , I was fortunate to work and learn as an apprentice in Landscaping, but have had to learn on my own on building, so we greatly appreciate all of the videos

I love watching pros work, no matter what industry they're in. The efficiency, the confidence in what they're doing... It's impressive. My trade is metalwork these days, specifically gunsmithing, now that I'm retired from being a shooter... The way he glides around the job is exactly how I am in my shop, and how I was on the job before retirement. Keep up the good work. I came here because it's been a long time since I built a house, and my brother just enlisted me in remodeling his house. We both know how to do it, but he's the carpenter by trade... I'm the soldier. So I'm a bit rusty. I'll be framing windows on Thursday, so I better brush up on the lingo. I was trying forever trying to remember the names of the king studs until I remembered Youtube.

SPOT ON I hope the Crazy Framer watches your videos and learns what it means to take pride in your work and do it right!!! Its not always about speed!! its about quality framing and accurate walls to set the precedence for the remaining of the build. Your mentors taught you well my friend.

Thanks for sharing. I'm about to frame up a tiny house and needed a solid refresher course on window openings. Looking forward to watching more of your content!

Great idea putting in a screw to pry on for getting the header flush, when I don’t have screws I sometimes pull the safety lever back, fire a nail and then pry on the head

Great video! I always thought houses were put together the same way as Legos. I expected more super glue. Really opened my eyes.

That’s a cool trick holding the boards in place with a screw + hammer!

I’m a builder and I don’t watch many of these videos but I love these guys! I think I’ve watched just about all of their content. Nice to see younger pros making strait forward videos for the greenies also the way they run there projects nicely they also keep it light and have fun doing it ! If your doing this for a living the way these guys do you got it made! Well done boys, I’m a fan! And it’s good for the next generation to see instead of the “alternative “ lol

You've probably already heard of this, but I prefer nailing the king stud, jack stud, and outer criple, all together before putting them down onto the plate. This just makes nailing them together and flushing them a lot easier since you're not fighting gravity
