Extreme kudos to Courtney Vance, who played the father. He is an excellent veteran actor who we don't see enough. His performance was the initial one that brought us to all of this emotion we are feeling now.

This was a very powerful episode and Shonda deserves a standing ovation for this episode. I really liked how you got to see both sides of the story of the cop and the unarmed boy. Shonda really took a big risk of writing this episode and airing it. I just wished things like this in this episode happened in real life. #RIPMikeBrown #RIPTrayvonMartin #RIPEricGarner #RIPTamirRice

Was I the only one imagining Marcus being a Gladiator?!? On another note, best Scandal episode to date! SHONDA.DID.THAT!!!! No other network or tv show had the courage or the balls, but Shonda did, and it was BRILLIANT!! Olivia and the dad were both suffering from PTSD, just different dynamics. New VP is going to make Mellie look like the fool she is/acts, just watch! She was trained by *THE* Olivia Pope and things are about to get interesting. End scene with Fitz and Clarence, heart shredding. 2 fathers, 1 black, 1 white both equal in their grief, no words needed to be spoken, just human to human connection.

Sofia you hit the nail on the head in explaining the explicit racism v. implicit racism and the dire consequences which could mean death.

I cried at so many points during this episode that I got a headache. It's almost 48 hours later and my eyes are still red.

I know that I'm going to need EVERY quote by this aftershow because it is something important to remember. To continuously remind ourselves of our own certain quotes. So I would love for anyone to provide a quote for what was said in the episode but also from this emotional aftershow given to us. "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter, " said my Martin Luther King Jr.

I agree and I can see Sofia's thought of process in comparing the officer and as of a dictator. This episode was so emotional. Thank you all for sharing thoughts and emotions to make every topic in this episode seem so real to us as Americans, especially as people of color living in America.

I just wanna say thank you for being so open about how this episode affected all of you.  I to thought it was extremely powerful.  I grew up in Hawaii and was never exposed to racism because Hawaii is such a melting pot of cultures, however when I was in high school I became interested in the civil rights topic after watching the movie Ghosts of Mississippi with Whoopi Goldberg and Alec Baldwin.  I then went to live on the mainland (Connecticut, Louisiana, and South Dakota) and was even more exposed to how different the mind set is when it comes to race.  I am incredibly grateful for that experience because it now allows me to teach my children in a better way how to be accepting of people who are different whether it be through race, culture, or even sexual orientation.  I was deeply touched by the ways that you guys were honest about your own personal experiences so thanks for that.  Angie, Hilo, HI

Thank you Emile, Sofia, Kennelia, and Bamm  for continuing the conversation. Such an episode! Such a discussion and it is a dialogue as Americans we must have. Oh the tears. I so feel all of you. I cried my way through this episode - much more than I ever thought I would. We are Americans - nothing less. This episode took on race and class. That really ugly word that divides race - class. Yes - Emile, yes. I have nephews - they are tall - and black. They are nice young men but at any given moment it could all go wrong - so terribly wrong. Wow the whole white officer thing was crazy - "us people". Good to hear that point of view because it exists. Bam - it does f'n suck - you got that right! Everything else in this episode was sidebar. The music was so perfect last night - from Marvin Gaye to Nina Simone.

I'm not a cryer, I'm not a cryer. You guys man, I appreciate everyone's opinion. Thanks for the recap. The father about getting his kid to 18, that was hard. I could not imagine that kind of pain. Hats off to everyone involved in the episode.

Brilliant point about racism Sophia. Deep. The officer wasn't scared for his life, he was having a dictator-rant 'the boy had no right to question my authority'. So so deep.
