Living with a schizophrenic

At thirty-three, Patrick is schizophrenic. He is already in his sixth hospitalization. Magali, 22, suffers from visual and auditory hallucinations. The young woman lives in anguish and fears contact with others. She had to stop school in third grade. Her daily life consists of a multitude of rituals intended to reassure her. Also, we discover, at the Bordeaux hospital, one of the rare services in France reserved for psychiatric emergencies. 7800 people pass through it every year. The parade is permanent because, in psychiatry, the number of places is increasingly reduced and the duration of hospitalization increasingly short.

Don't ever tell a patient to snap out of it.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking, compassionate documentary. I lost a dear friend to suicide when she was 27, because she couldn't stand her illness, and she found the side effects to her medications intolerable. She had planned it out for years, knowing that when things got too bad, she had a way out. I still miss her every day.

God bless that young man's parents! I have schizophrenia and my own parents was just as loving, but there are many loved ones of people with schizophrenia, who give up under the stress and have them put in hospital or even kick them out which leads them to being homeless, so I honestly have a lot of respect for the loved ones who never give up! Bless them!💕

I think Patrick is the most adorable person and he's very polite! I hope that he and all the other patients are able to successfully get better

I have a daughter with schizophrenia. In our family we had to deal with cancer and other severe illnesses. The suffering of schizophrenia is the most devastating. There no really cure. It will never heal. It is so difficult to watch your child suffering that much. And there is little you can do.

A very sweet considerate, compassionate & supportive way to care for those who suffer.. I really enjoyed this film, thank you for uploading it. It’s tragic, criminal such facilities are unavailable for those suffering here in the USA. The existing psych wards are underfunded, have inexperienced under educated staff, they just barely have enough funding to operate let alone expand or improve conditions for patients and staff.

Subtitles had made this more personal, but yet a great documentary. My heart goes out to all with mental illnesses.
Been there myself, having depression, BPD and OCD. Almost killed me, but today Im in a much, much better place mentally - forever grateful fot that.

I have schizophrenia, OCD, borderline personality disorder, major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. I live in India and we don't have this kind of mental hospital and facilities. My family being conservative they don't considered my problem as disease even i am diagnosed and i can't take medicine . So these people are lucky to be treated in this way

My son manages his diagnosis of schizophrenia very well. It can be a highly distressing condition even with a good medication regime. I have walked alongside my him since schizophrenia first came into his life. My son is a very gentle intelligent 6'4 giant. It's been at times challenging however over time huge gains have been made since he was first diagnosed. I am my son's sole support many family and friends have left our lives.. There is still much discrimination and misunderstanding about the condition.

It is horrible having a mental illness. I have one. I love this video and I can empathize with Patrick's pain. I love his mate in hospital's song about Valium

I'll never forget the first breakdown I witnessed. Years and years ago😂We're still friends. He was my roommate at the time and came home completely out of his mind but still essentially him. I debated tying him up as I slept(We were criminals, no 911). Finally, I felt confident that it'd been enforced that he was not okay and needed to stay home and chill while I figured out how to help him, and went to sleep. I'm getting misty here😅
When I woke up, unbarred my door to find him sitting on the couch in front of every glass in the apartment on the coffee table. He was troublingly ecstatic. He'd spent all night getting something to drink over and over and over. He looked Ethereal in his delerium somehow. I called his Dad and explained what was happening. His Mom had issues too so he was upset but knew what to do.
We need to take care of people like this. They are a test for us to pass.

My grandfather was diagnosed schizophrenic and I was never allowed to be in his life due to his episodes of ranting and raving on alleged psychosis. Come to find after he died in May 2019, all the things he had been ranting about were truth. He was an orphan and all his delusions were around what happened to him growing up, and all his documentation left to my Aunty showed all his ranting was factual. Sad that nobody ever listened to him due to things like black budgets being suppressed my mainstream media. I note he was in the military, well he likely has a degree of PTSD. My grandfather had PTSD and was forced on horrible medications for all things he endured in the 40s-80s in the height of the Cold War. Come to show it was all true. Disgusting how the military and intelligence agencies cover up what experiments they have done on families and gaslight them as being mentally I’ll when they are under trauma based mind control. It’s sick.
