I think Anakin also realized he had gone terribly wrong when he didn’t help Mace Windu kill Palpatine. He didn’t want to make the same mistake with Luke. Padme and Luke knew the truth. The best part of Anakin still existed within Darth Vader. Awesome video as always!!

Watching this scene in May 1983 when Return of the Jedi came out was so powerfully dramatic and overwhelming, especially the moment when Vader grabbed the Emperor and destroyed him by throwing him into the core shaft, I'll tell you the response by the packed theater that day I will never ever forget all my days. Everyone including myself were just absolutely emotional and all of us were on our feet shouting with joy and cries of relief!! Just absolutely incredible!!!❤️👍😆

I think the novel version of The Return Of The Jedi pictures the end of that scene a bit differently. It has been years since I read it but I think Anakin/Vader was trying to slide into the shaft after Palpatine was destroyed but Luke pulled him back.

I remember when I was watching return of the Jedi with a friend and he asked how the emperor never sensed Vader coming in to kill him. It was because it was an act of love not hatred so the emperor was blind to it. He didn't know the feeling of it. He only knew hatred so Vader would have attacked him in an act of hatred. He would have sensed it coming immediately
