From my experience, its all good till you leave kerbins sphere of influence. Thats when things turn into you being able to go through surfaces. Edit: The for science update actually made it pretty rare to encounter bugs like this,

so ksp 2 did fix lots of them but there are countless more bugs they need to fix that they just need to have more time to do but they released the bug fixes so the people will not complain about some of the bugs

for some reason all other landing legs have 0 bugs.. but those big ones are extremely BuGgY
