Taiwanese Mandarin ≠ Hokkien
Taiwanese Mandarin is the mandarin with Taiwanese accent but the same language China officially uses, while Hokkien is also called Taiwanese (language), belonging to Min language family mentioned in the video.

As a person in Taiwan, I like that people are sharing that Taiwan is deferent to China. Thank you StayCurious!

Error on your research: Hokkien is what southern people in Fujian province of China speaks. It is also the dialect that a lot of Chinese in Southeast Asia speaks. It is not from Taiwanese Mandarin and native language.

I think Taiwanese Mandarin and Taiwanese are different. Taiwanese is Hokkien but Taiwanese Mandarin is MANDARIN with Taiwanese accents :taiwan_flag:

Man, talk about nostalgic & informative. Although it’s been two years since the last SC video, I can surely and excitedly say you guys have picked up right where you left off in terms of teaching history and producing high-quality video. This was great! The footage and editing were both excellent & kept my interest engaged. The narrator was also smooth & clear. It’s so good to see this channel back up & running. I cannot wait to learn more about the world 🗺 & see what other video ideas pop up on here. Excellent work to EVERYONE involved on this staff!

There are some big mistakes in the language part. At 3:40, the number now is about 80% (for spoken mandarin), and for writing the number is 95%. At 3:45 there is no source for this, and this is far from reality... And Min at 4:11(one dialect) is extremely similar to Hokkien at 4:35 (actually the same thing, slightly different by history). And Hokkien is not Taiwanese mandarin... Mandarin from Taiwan is mostly different in writing and is mostly called traditional Chinese.

Many indigenous peoples originated in what is present day Taiwan, before the Han Chinese settled there... including Southeast Asian peoples like Malay, Indonesians, Hawaiians, Austronesians, and others. Even the people of Madagascar in Africa.

Jacob I think it is not your voice, right?

You didn’t mention the huge Mandarin accent differences between China and Taiwan. And differences in writings (simplified vs traditional).

0:42 (saying it's called The Republic of China from 1949) is incorrect, since from 1895 to 1945 Taiwan was colonized by Japan. And after the second world war, from 1945 it has already become a part of The Republic of China.

The Republic of China founded by KMT on Oct. 10th, 1911, and Japan returned Taiwan colony back to the ROC on Oct. 25th, 1945, then KMT government retreated to Taiwan on Dec. 7th, 1949 while Oct. 1st the PRC founded by CCP.
4:24 Now there are 21 national language in Taiwan, including 6 han language and 15 aboriginal language. And the Taiwanese is also fused with Japanese.

these are not called differences, if you call these differences then there are more differences in provinces than this in many countries where everything is different..Here both have same food, same language, same culture, same history, differences are only political, which is not a big ask

The myth about Taiwan sharing a common history with China is just that. The Taiwanese people actually share DNA and culture with Austronesian people in Pacific Islands such as New Zealand. Culturally speaking Taiwan shares similarities with both Japan and China because it used to be part of the Manchu Empire that colonized both Taiwan and China before Taiwan becoming a Japanese territory. The present day China inherits most of its culture from the defunct Soviet Union because Soviet funding and direct involvement created the People's Republic with no relationship to Taiwan.
