India has now entered its seventh month of the pandemic and there seems to be no flattening of the curve in sight. Meanwhile countries with diverse systems like China and Taiwan have handled the outbreak pretty well, and Pakistan, quite remarkably, seems to have bent the graph. In episode 573 of Cut The Clutter, Shekhar Gupta lifts the layers from these crowded nations’ performance in the pandemic.

In india you can’t have awareness when 90% of News channel are not interested to talk about corona but rather talk about Kangna runout, sushant and other stupid issues

My dear elder Brother... you didn't mention that during SARS 2003 in Taiwan. WHO didnt help during that time to Taiwan so they learnt their lesson that WHO runs under CCP!!! That's y they handle it better this time

Pakistan: Has no money for Covid tests/response.
WHO: Congratulates Pakistan for handling Covid well.

In six seven months, I have gone out for only six seven times. And I see people stepping out with group of six seven and without mask. Utter stupidity!🤦‍♂️

Though I wrote this about a month ago on twitter and it still largely holds true:
polulation:
Uttar Pradesh state: 23 Cr, pak: 21 Cr
total cases: UP: 219, 457, pak: 295, 636
deaths: UP: 3356, pak: 6288
tests: UP: 5, 350, 704, pak: 2, 603, 129

Actually pakistan population is less and they have reached herd immunity. India is big thus taking time.

Dear Shekharji, the name of the epidemiologist is Jayaprakash Muliyil and not Joseph Muliyil
Good analysis
I am a doctor and I have almost a daily disappointment with patient’s relatives, I have a hell of a time convincing them to wear masks properly and avoiding too many of them coming with the patient

It's highly unbelievable that China was able to contain the Covid so well that their cases ended up at 83-84k range.
If India has registered 54 lakh cases so far, China may have registered equal or number of cases by the time other countries started hitting their peaks.

I think most of our citizens in India are still not behaving responsibly. I stay in Kolkata. Not only are some people still roaming around roads without masks, even some are busy sipping tea or smoking cigarettes (as if the normal pollution was less to damage their lungs) with their masks down. I suppose the situation is quite similar in other parts of the nation too. Unless these irresponsible behaviour stops, even God cannot stop increase in number of people getting infected with Covid (or atleast till any vaccine comes into distribution for the general public).

I work at a government run hospital in Pakistan and I can say that we are sending 20-25 tests a day right and 3 months ago the positivity would have been around 10 people and now someone rarely comes back positive. The positivity has come down drastically. Unknown reason yes but still probably the uniform lockdown was a bad idea and smart lockdown was the way to go. We sealed off the hotspots only and that helped a lot.

Like it or not: China has managed this pandemic really well. We must learn from them.

Instead of bad mouthing other countries we should get our act in order, follow the rules, regulations and advisories issued by the authorities. Only that will help us to deal with the situation, not trying to score points.

Are dictatorships better at handling crises? Nope. Keep in mind, it was the dictatorial nature of the CCP that caused the outbreak to go out of hand in the first place. Case in point - Kerala. Now, it's a fact that Kerala, along with TN has the best medical infrastructure in the country but it's clearly no match for that of China. However, during the 2017 Nipah outbreak, Kerala didn't let it become a Global crisis.

Is it not intriguing that we couldn't control Corona even in Andaman & Nicobar islands ??

I'm home quarantined at an army campus since lockdown started 5months ago. I get frustrated looking at the civilians outside the army campus going about their lives as if nothing happened...no regards for social distancing and mask. Sometimes I feel why should only few care while majority don't care.

The number of positive cases doesn't really matter if the people are asymptomatic in general
Even if Pakistan isn't testing many people, the worst case there is that we won't know how many people are infected
But that doesn't take out the deaths from the equation. You can't under-count or hide deaths
And death is the ultimate end for COVID...literally why we care about the pandemic

So if we think about that, Pakistan HAS handled this much better than India. I know its hard to say that in India these days but it is what it is
Not sure why its working in Pakistan though, but I'm glad that whatever they're doing, it worked
