It’s pretty simple but everyone seems to want to spin it into some complex issue but it’s just like when Endgame came out and everyone moved on from Marvel stuff for the most part. Final shape for a lot of people was the end, it wraps up the 10 year story just like Bungie said over and over in their marketing and people are ready to be done with it. That’s it. I’d predict the next episode player peaks will be like 70k - 80k on steam down from the usual 100k+ with continuation in decline along that trend for the future. Bungie needing to count D2 revenue while simultaneously telling the player base “This is the end” “this is the conclusion of a 10 year journey.” Is WILD to me.

Great vid. After defeating the Witnesse as the conclusion of this 10 year journey, its clear that many like me, still love the game but need something "Fresh" in Destiny, different to get back into gear. Personally, with the news of D3 "never" in the works was a hard blow.

Literally stopped playing when I logged on for 20 min only to be able to do 1 new weekly mission per week. Warframe has my attention again

This video is sloppy. From like 12:30 to 13:25 you repeat yourself verbatim. Also you can talk about the issues with Destiny without making this some kind of political thing. Also you call "Destiny 3" "Bungie 3".

They "fixed the issue" with Lion Rampants.
And i took issue with that. Its the players still playing that get the shortest end of the stick everytime. TFS was so poetic and satisfying for me.
But it wasn't layoffs, scaled back content, or even no destiny 3 in development.
Its being a Destiny player, having your playstyle panned by high skilled players and content creators alike for years, and then having the updated shiny toy taken away two months later calling it a problem.
Im getting off the boat with everyone else.

The devs started making mistakes when they removed content from the Curse of Osiris and Warmind DLCs (2018). Players paid for the content and then Bungie ripped them off! The promise to bring this content back from time to time was never fulfilled. I really hope the people involved were fired, but either way Bungie is no longer trustworthy for players to buy content from

WAY OFF BASE. Really, REALLY off base, the whole video. He states that a 'dying game is really a personal thing'. No, it isn't in any way. When you can't get any players to play in PVP, the game is dead. When multiplayer based titles LOSE all those people, the game dies. ANTHEM IS A DEAD GAME, NOT A PERSONAL CHOICE. This is another bad argument that takes a position that doesn't make any sense with reality. We live in the world, right now and you can't pick and choose what you want to believe about a PRODUCT.
DESTINY IS A PRODUCT. IT IS NOT ART. NOT IN ANY WAY. IT IS SOLD EN MASSE TO THE PUBLIC. THAT IS NOT ART. Now, that's not to say there isn't art IN the product, but the thing that Bungie does is MAKE VIDEO GAMES FOR MONEY. That was true when they thought of the game, it was true when they empowered their workers to make the game and it has been true every moment since the creation of the game. It was not magic, it wasn't an aligning of the stars, no made up deity made it...A BUNCH OF EXECUTIVES GOT TOGETHER AND DECIDED TO MAKE A GAME TO EXPLOIT THEIR IP. That's what Destiny IS.
And it WORKED. Not at first, but it worked, they HOOKED THE WHALES. Then THEY FEED THE WHALES WITH EVERVERSE. They became BLOATED due to all the MICROTRANSACTION CASH, which was WHY ACTIVISION PARTNERNED WITH THEM TO CREATE DESTINY. Then, because they WANTED MORE MONEY, not that they wanted a 'better product', they split from Activision. Started shopping the IP around. WHY??
Destiny's total development was an endless pit of money that was dependent ON WHALES.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW WHY DESTINY HAS FAILED?? IT HAS FAILED...THE STUDIO IS OWNED BY SONY NOW AND THE STUDIO IS RAN BY SONY...THAT'S NOT 'SUCCESS' THAT'S ABJECT FAILURE.

WHALING. THAT'S WHY IT FAILED AND WHY THAT STRATEGY FOR MONETIZATION WILL ALWAYS FAIL.

It's NOT POSSIBLE to run a game off the dedication of WHALES. What's a WHALE? It's a complete and utter moron that will spend heaps of money on digital items for no reason at all or even worse, jealousy. The problem with running a game off those WHALES is that there's only so many you can keep. PLAYER RETENTION HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST PROBLEM BUNGIE HAS FACED, and I'm not talking about Steam numbers, I'm talking about WHO IS ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME AND SPENDING THE MONEY ON EVERVERSE. New players RARELY spend 100 dollars on cosmetics, it's all about the whales. You have to appease them, but in trying to do that, Bungie made the other big mistake. They left new players out of the equation.
New players are how a NORMAL game would grow, but Bungie left them to service the whales that were buying Eververse stuff, to keep their bottom line going up in revenue.
The thing is, it didn't keep going up. It plateau'd early and has been on life support for a few years now. There isn't that much you're going to buy after 10 years of the same stuff.
Destiny 1 and 2 ARE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME GAME. How do you keep monetizing the game if the people you need to buy the stuff you make don't buy it? YOU DIE as a game developer, which is what happened to Bungie. It's dead, pretty much, has been for a while, but it's really official, It's just a part of Sony now, which is most likely the best thing that could happen to that studio. It was mismanaged the ENTIRE TIME it was out.

Because you like the shooty bang bang, doesn't mean you know what reality is. it failed to do what it was meant to do and that was grow into a large and more exploitative game that entices new players to spend money. Fortnight shows what kind of model can work and sustain it self, this model though, the whaling-only business model, it's always going to die. The game itself suffers when this happens too because it shifts the field in favor of Whales that will, eventually, stop supporting the game at a high level. They won't buy all the things because there's no point, it's all the same people, the same events, the same things you do, so they move on. 1 whale leaving makes a HUGE difference if the only form of revenue you have is from those whales.

The game can go up and down, that doesn't actually matter all that much. All that matters are the whales that keep the lights on, so they charge them Dungeon Keys now that used to be free, make more outfits and make the way cooler than anything you can get in game in the Eververse, even give them a better sparrow in a hover board you can ONLY buy with real money now. They let you earn it ONCE, that tells you everything about the game and company that runs it.

I played destiny for 7 years, but miss it so I came looking to find out if I should return for this expansion as this is the only one I skipped.

I love this game and have been for years. I started playing when I was 14 and now I’m 23 it’s been a big part of my life. But ontop of the game hitting its end in story “ as advertised” it all has to deal with us growing up. I just got a full time job teaching and I started when I was a kid. It’s hard to find time to find time to dump 6 hours into a raid or grinding when I got to work here soon. Plus content creation for the game is getting harder with the drying up on top. But still love bungie and destiny always ❤

Story’s over and Bungie has been ran into the ground. Destiny will be abandoned for the future flop Marathon. Bungie will be absorbed by Sony. 🎉😂

D2 dying because they kill it to sell you D3, will be exactly D2 but this time without campaigns, rinse and repeat.
A bunch of players will never return tho.
