Two of my favorite SUVs of all time, the Grand Cherokee and 4Runner have a lot to offer and each cater to different niche in the market. Here's a side by side comparison including a few areas where each model has an advantage.

Thanks to Wholesale Auto Connection for the use of the Grand Cherokee:

I have a ‘05 WK w/5.7L V8 HEMI, love it.
235km on it, some KO2s on it, i daily drive it in BC Canada and occasionally take it offroading/camping/hunting and it’s never let me down yet.

I gotta say I love the four runner and it was my dream vehicle, but just test drove a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk V6 and LOVED IT!! I wish I didn’t drive it honestly. On road/day-to-day comfort with major off road capabilities, better fuel economy, and even tows more than the four runner at 6200 lbs vs 5000 on four runner. Has nice, jumpy acceleration, comfortable, and has that air suspension, so you can selectively lift it when needed and it lowers once it reaches a certain speed for better aerodynics, safety, and fuel economy. Yes I’m aware of Jeeps vs Toyota in the reliability department, which causes a major dilemma Bc I know the four runner will last forever, but is a tank and bummer to drive with horrible fuel economy (actually loses 1mpg in 2020 from safety sense) compared to the Trailhawk. I think the Jeep is like a Swiss Army knife whereas the four runner is more off road/overland focused with clunky on road handling, which you know is where it will live with most people buying it. For me personally I’m a performance guy and an off road adventurer at the same time. What I hate the most is when I push the gas and there is lag. I don’t care how good it looks or how dependable it is. It’s gotta feel good and be responsive. Believe me..I so want to be a Toyota dude Bc I get the reliability factor, best resale value (next to wrangler and Tacoma), more cargo space, etc. But it’s like a camera..it can have the best sensor, highest megapixels, best reviews, etc..but if it doesn’t feel good in my hand and sort of a pain to use..I could care less. In the end you gotta do what is best for your soul! Live life now!

Driven both. Grand Cherokee if you want more of a car and feel and 4runner if you, re a truck guy. Both have a different feel when driving and it depends on your needs. Took the 4runner because of its size, how versatile it is with the rear power window and durability which cannot be matched being body on frame. 4runner is a tank.

The 4Runner, my dream car since I first saw commercials for it in 1984 when I was a kid, and seeing people driving it on the roads. And as an adult, I made sure my first true car-truck was a 4Runner, never regretted it.

I’ve had two 4RUNNER’s an SR5 and now the Limited they are the best and most reliable vehicles I’ve ever had. I will continue to to buy 4RUNNER’s.

I love my WK2. They definitely did a decent job with it, making versatile af. I won't lie though, give me the interior and engines of the WK2 in the WK or earlier and I'd be in love. There are definitely some more 'modern' touches they really could have done without. The more bulbous body takes away some of the ability to do the crazier mods that you could do to the preceding model, but they kept it way off road capable at the least. Many were scared away from Jeep when the WK came out, but for those of us crazy enough to get close and actually see what was up, we know it's a beast!

I'm committed for sure. About to finally lift mine in the coming weeks

I think I'm "odd man out" as I really don't put much weight into looks or bells & whistles.
First thing any dealer asked me was "what color do you like?" I don't care about that.
How does it do the job of getting my family from point A to point B? Longevity is important too.
I bought a 4runner.

I personally have the 4Runner and love it! My sister has a Trail Hawk which is also awesome! I do love that my 4Runner isn’t a Unibody.

I've owned both and prefer the Grand Cherokee. Reliability-wise, I've actually had better luck with the Jeep compared to the 4Runner.

All modern vehicles have their own set of quirks and problems, regardless of manufacturer or model. If you look hard enough you will find something wrong. I can see brand loyalty is strong amongst those leaving comments, but let's all be impartial and realistic for a moment. These SUVs are BOTH great options. I, personally, would be proud to own/drive either one. It's just a matter of what you're willing to sacrifice or settle for. Great video, very informative

We have both! Wife has the Grand Cherokee and I have the TRD OffRoad Runner. We take hers on long trips (interstate) and mine on shorter trips or around town. Her Jeep definitely rides better and gets better MPG but there's just something so cool and unique about the4 Runner. FYI, I wouldnt have a Jeep but I don't dare tell my wife!

Love things about both the Jeep has a better, upscale look but come on no way to beat a 4 Runner! Really wish Toyota would have kept the V8 option. However if you have the $ you can super charge these engines

I may be the minority, but my 13’ Overland has been near perfect. Two water pumps and lots and lots of engine oil, t-case and diff fluid changes after 142k. Never an issue with the QuadraLift.

For me, there is no way I could live without the power of the HEMI. I tow a lot and can’t see the 4R even coming close. I do wish I had waited another year for the 8spd trans.

The 4 runner definitely is bouncy. I work undercover in law enforcement and many years ago we had a 1997 4runner in the fleet. It was so bouncy that many did not want to drive but I liked the vehicle. Once in a parking lot I was catching up to my partner who located a target and I hit a speed bump going fairly fast and my head hit the roof and it almost knocked me out. I thought I cracked my skull. Don't know if this 4runner was unusually bouncy because since it was a seized vehicle we did not know the history on it.
